New RCSI research has identified a previously unrecognised subgroup of patients with the bleeding disorder von Willebrand disease. The findings challenge current diagnostic practices and highlight a need to adapt clinical guidelines. ➡️ rcsi.com/dublin/news-an… #RCSIdiscover

Very excited to share our science and kick off new collaborations. Coffee is also mentioned, which is excellent.

#BT200 prolongs VWF half-life by attenuating macrophage-mediated clearance and specifically the interaction of K1405-K1408 in the VWF-A1 domain with macrophage LRP1. A anovel therapeutic approach for #von Willebrand disease and #hemophilia. ashpublications.org/blood/article/…

👀Let’s take a peek at the story that made our #october #coverart In #vWD type vicenza, #vWF clearance is accelerated. How⁉️ 🧬 Atiq et al. showed that the VWF-R1205H mutation leads to loss of positive charge and increased binding to macrophage clearance receptors via LRP1 and SR-AI. A significant novel insight into the mechanism of this complex disease. ✍️@DavidLillicrap @Jme_os @ProfJSODonnell jthjournal.org/article/S1538-…

The gene encoding von Willebrand factor is located on the short arm of chromosome 12, and a highly homologous pseudogene that does not generate functional transcripts has been mapped on chromosome 22. #VWD go.nature.com/4cSDuCA
