@francoisfleuret That is where all capital investments are going in the US Investors will re-evaluate and crash everything if there is no profitability soon US will have to: 1) Take the L on margins and profits, and operate AI like restaurants 2)Close the market to competition Slow/Fast death

@MartinShkreli Bro CIA, DoW, etc are not letting free flow of info, their reasoning is security too! They were just kept in check up to now. Anthropic is just one addition. There are like 20+ institutions, only takes one to end up as the Master. Americans are on the path to find their Master.

@signulll It's an insult, it's rubbing salt on the wound. I hit my limit within an hr on Codex! I've used Claude too but codex isn't that much better. If this is the final game, the future belongs to DeepSeek and China.

openai’s approach to competing with cc is interesting but flawed imho. this is prolly metrics positive in the short term but likely corrosive in the long term. this ad implicitly concedes claude is the thing people actually want & they’re just the off ramp for the frustrated. that’s simply not a flattering position for the long term.

@EcZachly Bro they just want enough of your data. Employee at Meta will become gig work, a Faustian bargain people will dread when they find their tired ghost within a model.

Meta reached to interview me for a principal role the same week they decided to layoff 8,000 people! I’m sure there was at least 1 out of those 8,000 people who got let go who would’ve been a good fit for the role they wanted to hire me for. A few of my staff engineer friends got let go so I know this is true. Instead they: - axe everybody - treat them like a cost - rehire where there’s pain What ever happened to employee retention? Why do companies expect us to be loyal to them if they don’t even try to retain us when they have hundreds of billions of dollars? It would be cheaper financially for them to retain one of those 8,000 people. It would be cheaper emotionally for the people who got let go too How do these big tech companies expect people to put their blood, sweat and tears into work while also saying, “yeah we’ll cut you at any moment.” I don’t know. The culture around AI and layoffs has gotten unbelievably toxic

If the rumored Anthropic at $900 billion round goes through, Anthropic will be the first company in history to cross the $900 billion mark with negative Free Cash Flow. Which is just an interesting data point is all.

One great thing about LLMs is that they produce outputs in a similar fashion, they all look and feel the same. Makes distinguishing genuine advertisements of good products vs the stuff self-sellers who put out and read whatever they're given much easier.

Trump is escalating a devastating, illegal war, threatening massive war crimes and targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran. In the last 48 hours alone, the rhetoric has crossed every line. Pete Hegseth is complicit. I’ve called for the 25th Amendment and am introducing Articles of Impeachment against Hegseth.
Scott MacFarlane@MacFarlaneNews

NEW: Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) says she’ll file for impeachment articles against Pete Hegseth Ansari: “Only Congress has the power to declare war, not a rogue president or his lackeys. Hegseth’s reckless endangerment of U.S. servicemembers and repeated war crimes, including bombing a girls’ school in Minab, Iran and willfully targeting civilian infrastructure, are grounds for impeachment and removal from office.”

@neutralto @ChrisRossini many livelihoods are attached to the empire. worse yet, many egos as well, they will fight tooth and nail. It is the best case scenario, can be done but it won't be easy. That is, if the baggage of the empire allows, and the wounded forgive.

As we watch things spin out of control in the Middle East I can't help but recall, and I've said it many, many times before and I'll say it again: one human being should not be able to have all this power. The Founders didn't want it that way and they were 100% right.

@mlhobbyist @borzou @yashar The die is cast. At the very least this will be a good stress test of the systems. Let the best for most come out of this. PS: I personlly do think Russia and China will get involved (much more formidable than Qatar and Saudi).

They never did. There were forces like Saudi Arabia and Qatar who supported them. I am not ignoring the regional and international power politics. We may well end up in that situation but that is after Islamic republic collapse. The situation will be too complex to analyze here but definitely something to think about seriously. However, none of that should stop us from pushing for Islamic regime collapse because that is the worst outcome for everyone, except Ayatollahs.

Dear pro-war Iranians, Look, I don’t like the regime. My entire extended family is Baha’i. I lived in Iran as an adult and saw the rot and repression first hand. But as a journalist, I also covered Iraq and saw what Americans did to the place. I was in Lebanon when the Israelis were shelling apartment blocks. I witnessed Libya being torn apart after a violent upheaval without any plan. I saw firsthand what happened to Syria when it became a playground for regional and world powers. These countries won’t recover for 30 years. You now have a senile gameshow host and an indicted war criminal launching a war against Iran. They killed a school full of children on day one and sent a toxic cloud over Tehran on week one. They are hitting Unesco sites and apartment buildings filled with bewildered civilians and destroying the country’s economy. They have no plan, or strategy, or internatonal support. Even Americans don’t support the war. Trump and Bibi are gonna smash up a lot of stuff and leave the place a mess, with Khamenei still in charge. Then China will move in and buy up the country cheap, and maybe Russia will get a Persian Gulf base. None of this will lead to democracy. Trump and Bibi don’t even believe in democracy for their own countries. But it also won’t lead to constitutional monarchy or anything decent or normal. It will only lead to ruin, blackouts, water outages, poverty, hunger, lawlessness, and despair. (100% organic writing, no AI) Subscribe to my newsletter borzou.substack.com

@mlhobbyist @borzou @yashar These are ideologs, what happened to Taliban when they ran out of money and arms they had? Nothing, US+Israel might have the watch, but they'll have the time. And with current population projections in Iran, the numbers too.

This war won't be decided just on the battlefield. What happens to that 1M force if there is no money to arm them? What happens to the majority of their supporters who are there just for economic benefits? What happens when there is no oil money to splurge? And what about the majority of Iranians who are sick of the government? Is there room in your analysis for these people to rebel at some point?

@mlhobbyist @borzou @yashar Looking at all the layout and history, I would rather a USSR version, they build up militarily, deterrence, then collapse from the inside and hopefully a better version of a govt comes out than the current Russian govt. Let's see, we are living in a cursed, interesting times.

Nobody is under the illusion that this war will result in a straightforward path to democracy. There will be struggles and power-grabbing moves by forces we may not have even heard of so far. But one thing is certain: the Islamic regime is a giant dam preventing progress in Iranian society. When it breaks, there will be chaos and uncertainty for a while, but at least there's a chance some forces rise to the occasion and guide Iran to a better future. I'll take that chance, however minuscule.

@mlhobbyist @borzou @yashar There is only 1 weapon that scares these people enough, to not do this sort of thing, and that is what Israel is most sensitive about. Even if pahlavi comes, it will be the same should he pursue it for autonomy and sovereignty and stop the neighbors harassing the Iranians.

@mlhobbyist @borzou @yashar There have been numerous times in history where a majority of the populace becomes Zoroastrian only for internal or external groups to come in, cut up some heads and justify their looting by stating they are heretics and left Eslam to choose another God.
