Today, the Women’s Team of the Military Health Service of the RDF received their official team kit, generously sponsored by RIIO iHospital. We are honored to be part of this meaningful partnership.

Our residents participated this week in a practical skills course dedicated to ophthalmic emergencies. The program was highly informative and enhanced their applied knowledge and clinical competencies.

RIIO joined eye care professionals from Rwanda and around the world at the Cataract Symposium at Kabgayi Eye Unit, which created a valuable space to exchange knowledge, learn from senior experts, and strengthen our shared commitment to improving eye care in Rwanda

This week, we conducted a school screening at Kigali International Community School (KICS), assessing both students and teachers. Those who required medication, eyewear, or further treatment were provided with guidance on how to access the appropriate care.

We were honored to host Dr. Daniel Neely training our young ophthalmologists and senior residents. Thanks to Dr. Simon Courtman, Dr. Erica Moore, Xiao Ying Liu, Orbis International, Hilary Twiggs, and Hunter Cherwek. One step closer to strabismus proficiency!

We made full use of Dr. Frisbee's dual fellowships in paediatrics and glaucoma to strengthen and enrich our residents' surgical training

This January, we welcomed Dr. Ryan Frisbee, Global Fellow from Utah’s Moran Eye Center. With dual expertise in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Glaucoma, he’s a shining example of the international collaboration driving our mission forward

We are delighted to welcome Dr Charlotte Marous Oculoplastic Surgeon to RIIO. She has spent the week teaching both residents and faculty a some new tricks in delaing with defects and tumours around the eyes #RIIO

6 RIIO Residents joined The Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ trauma course via live Zoom from the Kabgayi Eye Unit 🇷🇼. The training focused on managing serious eye injuries like corneal lacerations and globe ruptures. Huge thanks to Dr. Michael Mikhael for the collaboration!

The RIIO team is currently on outreach at Shyira District Hospital with over 100 patients expected to receive much needed cataract surgery. The team is led by our senior surgeon Dr John Cropsey and our young RIIO Faculty Dr Valence Kavira
