The Council's architects claim demolition of the hall is unavoidable. The Society doesn't agree and we have shown how the cinema could be built without destroying the hall. So we have applied for the building to be added to the national list of protected buildings.

The Friendly Societies Hall (the building with the elephants in Camden Road) is under threat from the expansion of the RVP. The Council's plan to build a boutique cinema on the corner of the precinct and Camden Road was exhibited in the RVP before Christmas.

The Council has installed temporary toilets at Fiveways, near the entrance to Royal Victoria Place. The facilities are free to use for shoppers, residents and businesses and include one accessible unit.

There are additional water stations now as we’ve opened one at The Amelia Scott for town centre residents who can’t get to the others. There is also one at B&M for grab-bags of water (not suitable for drinking). tunbridgewells.gov.uk/news/2025/dece…
