The UK is a place where thousands of people most of them elderly can be carried away and charged with terrorism for holding up a piece of paper bearing words the government doesn’t like. Where a 7 times elected member of parliament- me - can be held under terrorism legislation and effectively exiled from his country. Where 12,000 people a year are arrested for posts on social media. Where the government is hated by the people. And the people are hated by the government.

Breaking: Today's mass arrests of peaceful protesters in Trafalgar Square under UK terrorism law are yet another blow to civil liberties in this country - and made all the more outrageous by the Metropolitan Police's own U-turn.
The High Court ruled in February that the proscription of Palestine Action was unlawful.
The Met rightly said it would stop making arrests. It has now gone back to its old, failed policy - mass arrests of people holding pieces of card, including today an elderly woman with walking sticks.
This is not policing. This is the state criminalising dissent.
Take action now with thousands of other Amnesty International supporters and sign the petition to end all prosecutions against these peaceful protesters.

Police have arrested at least 92 people after supporters of Palestine Action mounted a protest in central London today. The group was banned by the government under terrorism laws last year, but that decision was ruled illegal by the High Court in February. The ban has remained in place, however, to allow the government to appeal against that verdict. Protesters, many of them older people, were carried off by officers after holding written placards declaring their support for the organisation.
