''When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less.''

Thanks to Ed Milliband the property I own with decent gas central heating has now been made much more desirable than any future new build. No one in their right mind will want an all electric house with a poorly performing and expensive heat pump. I like to be warm at night, not shivering under an electric blanket.

Most of Britain is ready to face the issues that have been swept under the rug for two decades. It is most of the Whitehall, media and political class which is not because it will result in their replacement. They have the most to lose.

@danny__kruger @positive4uk ‘Politicians of all parties, cowed by the maths and the polling numbers, wrongly convinced that the public cannot bear to be spoken to plainly, carry on the fiction, hoping to stumble over the electoral line.’ @OvePM 👏

This ought to be uncontroversial on the right. Starmer has actually reduced net immigration (superficially, but its something), whereas Boris tripled it because it would make the FT like him.
Peter Hague@peterrhague

I’ve see people suggest Kier Starmer is a worse PM than Boris Johnson. Not even slightly. Starmer is just mediocre, a deer caught in the headlights of multiple crises. Johnson was actively malevolent. He tore apart the social fabric of this country in order to depress your wages.

Our ruling elite can’t handle reality. This is our biggest political problem.

If you want to understand why the NT is talking in these terms, it's because our elites created a system where social status is gained by *creating forms of grievance where none existed*. You end up with patronising and ridiculous stuff like this as a result.

🚨🇬🇧 NATIONAL TRUST DIRECTOR SAYS ETHNIC MINORITIES DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE A National Trust director says ethnic minorities do not feel comfortable in the countryside because they do not know what to wear and do not know the countryside code. This is exactly the kind of mentality that turns everything into grievance, division and identity politics.

@stuey_beef @littlejeff5 Its not a gas crisis. Its a bunch of oilmen trying to cash in on gas today which will be useful in a real crisis in a couple of years time. Dont be a panic merchant.

MPs just blocked new North Sea drilling at Rosebank and Jackdaw – in the middle of a war‑driven gas crisis. This isn’t “green leadership”, it’s economic suicide. They’d rather import foreign gas at wartime prices than back British gas, British jobs and British security – and Labour MPs still followed Miliband’s lunacy.

AI slop is going to be very expensive because many subtle parts of economic and social systems are organized around small frictions that allow people to convey meaningful signals by overcoming them. You read letters because someone thought them worth the time to write. AI removes these frictions. It will render many social norms totally ineffective and will saturate many important channels of communication.

The death of inbound applications is upon us: and yes, it’s in a big part because of AI making it dead simple to apply. And so inbound applications become noisy, with increasingly more of non-qualified people. And so companies rely on referrals and recruiters to source instead.

Be very careful about going down the anti-Islamist route. What we need are targeted visa bans on specific national groups, like Pakistanis, Somalis, and Bangladeshis, where certain visas are routinely abused or lead to outcomes that harm the British national interest. The whole “anti-Islamist” or “anti-Islam” framing is pathetically vague and ends up creating more enemies than it’s worth. It’s also weak in terms of actual outcomes. What works is Trump-style visa bans on national groups that keep causing problems. This isn’t a slight on every individual; it’s just probabilistic reasoning and an admission that we can’t always separate the wheat from the chaff. Better to deal with this upstream than try to fire-fight the consequences downstream.

UK energy costs are now 4x higher than in the US. Not double. Not triple. Four times. And we’re told this is “progress”. Factories are shutting. Investment is leaving. Jobs are disappearing. Why? Because Labour is pushing Ed Miliband’s Net Zero lunacy at any cost. Shutting down our own energy. Blocking North Sea drilling. Forcing reliance on expensive imports. Then acting surprised when bills explode. This isn’t climate policy. It’s economic self-harm. Other countries back their own energy. Britain punishes it. This is ideology over common sense. And we’re all paying the price.
