@veranmiller I have a membership to it myself - I'm just telling you what I've heard people say. It's mostly from beginners that I hear it, but in the past when I've taught classes on how the different big websites work, I've always listed it as a valuable resource.

@RedheadGenealog MyHeritage has been around for more than 20 years. It's not a new company. 23andme and Ancestry had to start somewhere to grow to their size today.

Once again, MyHeritage has found me another distant cousin. I have found someone related to my Russian 7th great-grandfather. I don't get matches like this on Ancestry. I don't understand people who won't give MyHeritage a try. So thankful for MyHeritage.

@LauraPowellEsq @BurtMaclin_FBI If there has to be 2 pieces of bread, you're removing an entire culture from the issue - Scandinavians are famous for open-faced sandwiches w/only 1 piece of bread. In the US, USDA & FDA have responsibility for defining the word, & they have diff. ones for open & closed versions.

@BurtMaclin_FBI If you head down that path, just about anything with any kind of bread is a sandwich. Pizza, taco, etc. It can even be argued that chicken nuggets are sandwiches, since they are breaded. I feel like you either need to stick with a strict definition, or open the floodgates.

I just had an interesting conversation with my coworkers about whether or not a hotdog is a sandwich. Some were saying it’s not a sandwich because a sandwich requires 2 separate slices of bread, but I countered with, “What happens if the bun splits as I’m folding it around the hot dog? Does it suddenly become a sandwich?” Not a single coherent argument came after that. So, yeah, a hotdog is a sandwich.

Kaaterskill Falls in the Catskills launched American landscape painting. By mid-century it was so popular that people paid admission to watch scheduled waterfall performances. Halfway up the falls, there's a plaque for Vite, a dog who leaped from the top in 1868 trying to reach his master. On June 19th, locals say, you can still hear him. bit.ly/4bJBGO1

Auschwitz Memorial
Auschwitz Memorial@AuschwitzMuseum·
Below is how AI distorts one of the most recognized visual symbols of Auschwitz: the main gate of Auschwitz I with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei". It has nothing to do with the real, authentic site that we strive to preserve. By failing to respond to the spread of fake, AI-generated images and videos of Auschwitz and other Holocaust-related sites, social platforms like Facebook are contributing to the spread of historical distortion. We believe platforms should take responsibility by actively moderating such content and clearly flagging fabricated videos. Memory and historical truth deserve stronger protection. This matters because such content does not merely falsify history; it actively harasses the memory of the victims. Today, when users search for “Auschwitz” on Facebook, an increasing number of results consist of fabricated, AI-generated videos rather than authentic historical documentation. By allowing these distortions to surface, circulate, and gain visibility, Facebook directly contributes to the erosion of factual understanding of the complex history of Auschwitz, which we try to protect.

I got a message on Ancestry.com. I thought it could be something worthwhile. The person took 16 YEARS to answer my message for something I don't remember, of course. I guess late is better than never. People answer much quicker on MyHeritage...
