How I accidentally became a Mad Lad I’ve been a professional poker player for 8 years. In that time, I’ve watched a lot of friends make the jump from poker to professional trading. I never made that leap myself, but the interest was always there, simmering in the background. I stepped away from poker a while ago. Since then, I’ve been exploring what’s next. Trying to find that spark again. Lately I’ve been seriously thinking about whether it’s time to take my trading from a casual hobby to something more serious. For years, BitMEX was my home. OG status and all. But let’s be honest, BitMEX stopped innovating a long time ago. In crypto, if you stand still, you’re already losing. The market doesn’t wait. So I started looking for a new exchange. And that’s when I stumbled onto @Backpack Exchange, founded by @armaniferrante . People who know me know I have this thing for clean, sharp products that just work. No clutter, no compromises. Backpack clicked immediately. You could tell a real product team built this. A team that doesn’t just pick what’s technically easy, but what’s actually right. I discovered Backpack right as they were about to launch their TGE for the $BP token. I knew instantly I wanted a stake. But there was no way left to farm points. What I did notice: Mad Lad holders were set to receive 1% of the $BP token supply. I’d never heard of @MadLads . I’d never touched an NFT in my life. But there were a few listed for sale, so I didn’t hesitate. I bought two. Not for the NFT. Not for the art. Not for the community. Purely for the tokens. Spoiler alert: I never got those tokens. But what followed turned into one of the most fascinating rabbit holes I’ve gone down in a long time. In just a few weeks I’ve experienced more than I could have imagined, and something tells me the best moments are still ahead. I’ll be sharing more about this journey over the coming days.

the era of fuck around and find out in crypto payments is over. (maybe in crypto period, but will keep that for another time). regulations will go deep, all the way to the distribution layer, regardless of what partners you use. it won't matter anymore. same time large part of the technology stack is getting commoditized. the poc spun out of control. so now, not just real moat but survival of retail focussed crypto payment companies will come from a strong licensing game and good relationships with regulators. this will cause a decrease in companies offering such products over the next 12 months. not an increase. was fun though..
