A garbage collector, on his regular route, noticed that one elderly woman's trash bin hadn't been put out for two weeks straight — something that had never happened before. They discovered the 90-year-old woman (known as "Mrs. W.") had been trapped inside her home in Louisville, Kentucky, with no food for over two weeks. Isolated during the COVID-19 pandemic and with no nearby family, she simply had nothing left to throw away. Operations manager Jake Bland and customer service rep Bernice Arthur sprang into action. Bland personally shopped for groceries, delivered them to her door, and the company covered the cost.
