@SamGreer12 WVU has averaged 7.5 wins a year as a program since 1980. So, 8 wins is not a bad year in Morgantown. It’s what I expect, really. Add in an occasional 10 win season, conference title and CFP appearance, and being ranked consistently, I think I’d be happy.

Was Dana really a miss? He had a 10-win season, WVU was ranked consistently under him and he had WVU in the conversation for a Big 12 title twice. I admit he did not leave the program in a great spot, but he won at about the same rate as past coaches at WVU.

I was thinking about WVU hiring two can’t miss coaches - Dana Holgorsen & Neal Brown - who both missed. We had some fun times with Dana… the blowout of Clemson, the win that knocked Baylor out of the playoffs, two dramatic wins @ Texas… those shootouts with Oklahoma. But did we have any fun with Neal? I don’t think so.

Retaining DJ Thomas, Amir Jenkins, Jackson Fields & the redshirted players is more important for WVU than bringing in a highly rated recruiting class. Lack of continuity, buy-in and familiarity is why so many schools are struggling in the transfer portal era.

Obviously the hope is that Ross Hodge will go on to do great things at West Virginia, but the reality is that it was a questionable hire by Wren Baker.
Hodge was only a D1 coach at North Texas for 2 years before coming here. If it doesn’t work out, there’s a reason for that.
