@GadSaad I bet you never complained while availing yourself of all the free benefits while in Canada. People like you make me sick, so good riddance.

I’m unable to deal with the theft of much of my accrued book royalties and other creative endeavours. I’ve worked night and day for decades; nearly all of my money was generated outside of Canada, yet the provincial and federal governments felt that they are owed more than 55% of my earnings even though my taxes on my professorial salary is already more than what most Canadians pay in taxes. It is a criminal exercise bereft of fairness or morality. I hold out hope that I will somehow be granted financial cosmic justice.

@WallStreetMav These are false flags by the Zionist party. They literally said we need to make the world Affraid of Muslims again on their national TV.

It’s amazingly consistent. When Muslims move into an area, churches that existed for centuries just mysteriously start catching on fire.

@newstart_2024 I would guess many of them have easy access via walking for fresh and local foods. We have mega stores full of ultra processed food and whole foods shipped from across the world, thus not fresh or local.

French women don’t get fat, and Mireille Guiliano says it’s simple: They eat for pleasure with all five senses. Slowly. No calorie counting, no low-fat nonsense. Real butter, chocolate, duck fat, in moderation. They rarely snack, skip soft drinks, and prefer walking over jogging. The numbers back it up: France has one of the lowest obesity rates in Europe at around 10% for adults. The US sits at ~41% for women. What’s your take, could this pleasure-first, slower approach to eating actually be healthier than constant restriction?

Yep, the $55k in student loans I took out for law school was for a useless degree, since the corrupt State Bar of Arizona won't let me back in to practice law unless I pay $101k, the cost of the inflated bar disciplinary proceedings against not just me but my two superiors. How is that not the epitome of corruption? I always say I'll be paying off those loans until I'm dead, can no longer make huge payments on a journalist's salary.

Most of the degrees were useless for everyday carrers. Colleges over charged for useess degress.

The federal income tax was first only applied to super “wealthy” individuals. Now everyone needs to file a federal income tax return. The wealth tax on billionaires wil eventually be applied to you — just like property taxes.

@SteveOnSpeed Loans are not inherently predatory. They provide the means to acquire assets long before a person could afford the full payment. You have the option to pay them off as early as possible.

It’s tough to make the argument that student loans are usury when they voluntarily signed on the dotted line.

The 30 year old man who tossed a 3 year old into the crocodile enclosure has been released on bail. Before you get outraged; understand he is apparently a man with learning disabilities who got away from his carer. This might be negligent but do you expect the police to detain him and look after him? There is some easy outrage to be had here, but nobody wants to have a discussion about the serious flaws in adult social care, and how we deal with individual such as this. It’s not cheap, for one thing…

@anniedufour99 When I complained about paying way too much in taxes, my father said: “If you’re paying a lot of taxes it’s because you’re making a lot of money. Stop complaining and invest everything you can into your future”. I did. It worked out. Not sure Mr Saad deserves a Go Fund Me.

@gjbangar @The_Plain_Bagel Really? I didn’t know the US had an exit tax because I never even considered leaving. Kind of like saying all citizens should understand corporate taxes simply because it is in the US tax code c

This post is being circulated by a bunch of American accounts who seemingly don’t realize the US does the exact same thing. It’s called a deemed disposition - all your capital gains are “realized” and charged taxes before you leave. It’s not uniquely Canadian.
Gad Saad@GadSaad

Following a very difficult meeting with my accountant, I just found out how much it is going to cost me in terms of an "exit tax" to leave Quebec and Canada. No human being in a free society should have their hard-earned money stolen in this manner. I'm genuinely numb. I'm speechless.

@The_Plain_Bagel U.S. allows for non-residents … that’s why the country has a huge problem of collecting fair share of taxes from u.s. citizens leaving around the world.

@The_Plain_Bagel Seems crazy he's "just" realizing this. Like I agree taxes are too high, but the capital gains taxes are upfront. If they didn't do this IDK how they'd be able to collect the capital gains taxes which are half the rate of regular income.

@mario4thenorth And nearly every other country does the exact same thing, including the US. And rightly so. Why should you expect to leave with a ton of untaxed accumulated wealth and give the taxes instead to the next country you move to? That’s insane policy.

Gad just learned about the Canadian “exit tax.” It’s very real. It’s one of the reasons our brain drain isn’t bigger than what it already is. It’s a form of entrapment. There are successful entrepreneurs who have highly profitable businesses, that do not leave because their business would be taxed as though it was sold, a deemed disposition, at fair market value, but they don’t have the money to pay the tax on it. Think of it as an acquisition happening, but with you getting no money, and instead a tax bill as though you made a captain gain (profit) on selling your business. It’s like the mafia. You can’t leave without paying a price.
