@ScannerChi @kost_lou @EricTendian youtu.be/Pbm-QJAAzNY?si… The ground controller was working an emergency with UAL2384 on gnd freq - the fire trucks needed to cross RWY 4 on TWY D from their fire station to get to the United plane. The ground controller was also simultaneously working arrivals on tower freq.

Side-by-side comparison of C-GNJZ (the aircraft involved in this incident) before and after the collision. The entire cockpit section is completely mangled beyond recognition.

@tnertz The problem is those preliminary descriptions are often incredibly vague and they might not even match the current description of the offender or be accurate.

@ScannerChi I’d like the basic description that was phoned in and called out over the scanner to be relayed by officials and media. At least give people some information instead of saying Hakuna Matata, don’t worry. Too often that basic info doesn’t get communicated to non scanner nerds.

@tnertz Would you prefer they just not say anything about an active threat or say that there is a threat to the community?

@ScannerChi Yeah, it goes off the concept that the offender isn’t on a rampage or an incident was targeted. I reject those concepts.

@WindyCityDriver @kost_lou @EricTendian Aren't they supposed to get clearance from tower before crossing runways? Shouldn't the controller have seen the truck on their screen (since don't these trucks have ADSB?)

@kost_lou @EricTendian Could be any of a number of reasons: responding to or returning to quarters from another emergency, driver airfield familiarization training (the airfield looks completely different and unfamiliar at night vs. daytime to a new person), routine patrol, etc.

@tnertz yeah but typically when public releases say "there is no immediate threat", they mean "no need to shelter in place, the offender doesn't appear to be in the area, you can carry on", not "a crime has occurred and no offender is in custody" (that would cover a lot of crimes)

No idea what was happening last night but I haven't seen Troy, CPD, County, and Air 6 all up at the same time in a while
