This week, our Through the Lens South West learners have been building their filmmaking knowledge by exploring mise-en-scène and experimenting with different shots to create a short film using only three shots 🎬

As part of North Edinburgh Film Festival 2026, we're proud to present 'The Stories We Brought with Us: A Journey into the Pilton Video/SEE Archive'. The screening will take place on Saturday the 28th of March at 3:50pm at North Edinburgh Arts. The event is free and unticketed 📽️

At our most recent Through the Lens session at Murrayburn Primary School, learners took part in a special guest workshop led by composer Philip Curran 🎬 During the session, Philip explored the role and importance of music in film and television through practical exercises 🎵

Our Through the Lens learners at @leithacademy explored mise en scène, looking at how colour, setting, props & costumes help tell a story.🎬 They were then given a prop & challenged to create a short film in just 3 shots. The creativity from such a simple brief was fantastic!👏

The fourth edition of the North Edinburgh Film Festival will take place on the 27th and 28th of March! 📷 Presented in collaboration with North Edinburgh Arts, the festival celebrates community cinema and filmmaking in North Edinburgh 💫

Last week our Through the Lens learners at Murrayburn Primary School were busy working towards their Arts Award Qualifications 🎨 Next they will be moving on to learn about other elements of filmmaking such as sound design before beginning to develop their own stories! 🎬

On Saturday we celebrated our BFI Film Academy Short Course learners with a special screening at Leith Theatre🎬 Learners created 3 brilliant short films; 'Shrooms', 'Wings' & 'What’s In a Bowl', that was shown on the big screen followed by a Q&A. Huge congrats to all involved!
