Reports link Turkish weapons to violence in Mogadishu on June 3-4, particularly in the Hodan and Howlwadag districts. - Bayraktar TB2 and Akıncı armed drones allegedly used against opposition areas - APCs, tanks, and heavy artillery also reportedly supplied by Turkey - Turkey operates Camp TURKSOM and runs training programs for Somali security forces - A Turkish oil and gas deal allegedly gives Ankara up to 90% of revenues through cost-recovery clauses The accusation puts a sharper frame on what Turkey calls a "partnership." Critics say the real return on investment is military access and energy rights, not stability. Somalia has seen this cycle before the foreign backer change, the civilians don't. It’s well known that the current Somali government, which is essentially illegitimate because they illegitimately renewed their own mandate by a year, a move the law did not support, is made up largely of Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers. Turkey’s interest in Somalia is also, in large part, because they share the same ideology.
