I am humbled and honored to receive the 2026 Hill Prize in Medicine from @TAMESTX and Lyda Hill Philanthropies. We received this exciting recognition for our efforts to develop and eye drop treatment for wet AMD, a project which is informed by our extensive prior work in exosome-mediated barrier penetration in other organ systems, such as brain. The 2026 Hill Prize in Medicine honors all of my lab teammates, and Dr. Kaira Church who is leading the AMD studies.

Last year, the Welch Foundation funded $25.5 million in total research grants to 16 Texas institutions. Each grant is $117,000 per year for three years and awarded to tenure or tenure-track faculty members in Texas. Since 1954 and the Welch Foundation has commited over $ 1B to supporting chemical research at Texas educational instiutions. Congratulations to #WelchGrantee Maralice Conacci-Sorrell Conacci-Sorell @Sorrell_Lab at @UTSWMedCenter for receiving the 2026 Mary Beth Maddow Award from @TAMESTX. The Maddox Award recognizes women scientists that have made an impact in cancer research. Her work studies how cancer genes alter nutrient utilization and protein synthesis, and target strategies to disrupt tumor growth.
