Technology, leadership, digital culture, open data, open government, NGOs and General Nerdom... Opinions are my own.

@Richialbi The future is going to be owned by people who quickly grasp the 'what and why'. The 'how' will become less relevant to the stack, although it will retain some value. In my opinion, or course.

@Streamweaver Interesting thought... Understanding elements is certainly getting more important than loading brains with information that a program can deliver in 2 clicks... They have to learn to think and conceptualise things instead of just saving them...

A friend's child is graduating and entering a university engineering program. With the pace of AI development, how will these students feel about the skills they've learned and the money they've spent in four years? Will those skills still be relevant?

AI is not ready to develop apps yet, particularly complex ones. However, it is great at generating docstrings, tests, and other clean code elements. The shear laziness of developers that still don't bother with this astounds me.

@GadSaad @DrewBarrymore @KamalaHarris "Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother."

Is this possible? Could a society delve into such an infantile orgy of mediocrity that this is considered compelling? @DrewBarrymore was someone whom I adored in "The Wedding Singer." Now she's ruined it for me! As far as the Cackler @KamalaHarris, well...

Drew Barrymore participates in cringe worthy and fawning display with Kamala Harris. Drew Barrymore: “We need you to be 'Mamala' of the country.” Kamala: “Yeah, I mean, yeah, no, I know.”

The FTC's move to ban noncompetes is a step in the right direction for worker mobility & adaptability, especially as AI transforms the workplace. Employees need freedom to provide true added value through uniquely human skills. I hope this rule sticks. thehill.com/business/46154…

So basically, a year or so after I retire. We wont have to work anymore. I feel some kind of way about this.

This slide from a presentation on Generative AI's power is both hilarious and tragic. It's either an AI failing at the task being shown off or a human putting in no effort because they let AI handle everything. 🤖😅😔

It surprises people to hear that the most useful book I've ever read for interacting with AI prompts is The 4-hour Work Week. The sections about how to communicate with a personal assistant were more helpful than any book on software engineering.

@rywilwrite The world runs on minimalist tools because people understand them, allowing focus on the work, not the tool. Mistaking the tool for the work is the main reason most advanced systems fail to gain traction.

People who think Excel isn’t a database have no idea how much of the financial world runs on Excel being used as a database.
