Once Duterte got in power, he immediately got an array of allies just primarily due to his popularity. It wouldn't have changed anything. Maybe I'm just too jaded.

Similarly, World Bank research(openknowledge.worldbank.org/entities/publi…) highlights that the "Vote of No Confidence" creates constant accountability. A corrupt President is essentially safe for six years, but a corrupt Prime Minister can be fired by their party the moment a scandal breaks. The goal isn't to make politicians saints; it’s to change the math. Moving from expensive national campaigns to district-based elections reduces the need for billionaire kingmakers and breaks the cycle of debt to oligarchs.

It didn’t work in the Philippines. It didn’t work in Liberia. Because they aren’t Americans. The U.S. Constitution wasn’t imposed on a people. It grew out of them. It emerged bottom-up from American culture, values, habits, and institutions. No matter how brilliant its design, it cannot be transplanted top-down onto fundamentally different peoples and cultures. No magic sand. No magic paper.

@cabanyaray @dnpscrn @Rothmus You cannot minimize rich people's influence. As people are generally social creatures. And they also look for other people with similar "interests" as themselves. Kings will always have a kingmaker. But everything after that are just a party or coalition.

Oligarchs will always be there whether you like it or not, best thing a nation can do is to minimize their influence, so the question isn’t ‘did it really chance’ but ‘will it change the Philippines and its government?’ the answer is yes but it would take time. A parliamentary system shifts the focus from a single 'strongman' president to a collective party platform. It makes it harder for an oligarch to just lobby one person because they’d have to influence an entire party or coalition, which increases the chances of transparency and public accountability.

A parliamentary system might not fix everything overnight, but it’s a gamble worth taking. The problem? Our Constitution is locked tight by the Trad Politicians. It’s actually harder to flip the system than it is to change the culture. We’re stuck in a loop: oligarchs run the government, and the government keeps the masses dependent. We need a structural exit, not just a new face in office.

I feel like I am being baked alive. Holy shit I hate the Philippines. Even my 1 Horsepower AC at full blast during the day is barely keeping the room cold.

@VTuberHistorian Then you need to upgrade to 1.5HP just to be 100% sure. Becuase if the AC can't cool the room the motor will keep running, shortening it's lifespan. AC units need some rest time when it reaches the temps you set the AC in.

@StriderVM Idk how big my room. Its not small nor big. Probably 15sqm. But the ac even at half capacity is normally able to keep it cool during afternoons, and even freeze me during nights

Toby Fox has been thoroughly vindicated. He was right in not trusting localizers to properly translate Undertale in a language he personally doesn't know and the Yunyun Syndrome situation shows exactly why. It's not "racist" to protect your work from culture war vandals.

@TheAmazonia I have looked at any possible name or copyright issues. But I have found nothing. For some reason game companies changed the name of their shooters when releasing in International version. Like changing Gradius to Nemesis. Salamander to Life Force and Darius to Sagaia.

アケアカで購入した「ダライアスⅡ」。難易度は高いですが、やっぱ音楽が良いですよね～。そういえば、国産版はダライアスですが、海外版はSAGAIAというタイトルで、中身も微妙に違うそうですね。なんで海外版は、名前が変わったんですかね～？
