Charlotte’s Brain Tumour Journey
18.2.1997 – 24.2.2016
Diagnosis to death: 951 days
Age 19
My daughter was sixteen years old in this picture. It was taken in November 2013 the last day of a six week course of radiotherapy. The radiotherapy was for a grade three brain tumour, an anaplastic astrocytoma. The radiotherapy wiped her out, mentally and physically.
Twenty months later, the tumour mutated to a deadly grade four incurable glioblastoma. Seven months after that, she passed. In the months leading up to her death, the glioblastoma tumour stripped her bit by bit.
It started with paralysis; my daughter's right side no longer 'worked'. Soon after, she was unable to walk. She could then no longer talk. All the while, she was perfectly cognisant. She stressed and worried so much that she was burdening those around her. She was, literally, watching her life being taken away.
As her mother, my future had been taken away. I will not see her married, nor see her children. My son has lost his soulmate and he will never be a biological uncle.
My daughter was called Charlotte. The second picture is of Charlotte in 2014, the year she was 'well', in between diagnosis and death.
If you are thinking of donating to a brain tumour charity please pop a pound in Charlotte's BAG
To date we have raised £382k. 100% of all donations go to Charlotte's LAB, Kings' College Hospital. London.
We are a self funding charity
No salaries
No overheads
No advertising No merchandise
We even cover the PayPal and PO Box fees personally so nothing is taken from the charity account.
If you can't donate a RT would be appreciated.

Charlotte and I loved shopping together. She used to say that choosing her wedding dress would be a full day out, something we would both really look forward to.
Then she’d laugh and say, “that’s if anyone wants to marry me!”
I will never see Charlotte in a wedding dress or be the mother of the bride, and that’s something I find incredibly hard to live with. 10 years on I can't quite believe that she died aged 19 from a brain tumour.
My life has changed beyond all recognition. I've always worked but now also also run a charity in Charlotte’s name, raising awareness and funding.
I often wonder what I would be doing if my daughter were still here but I do this now because of her.

Meet Davyon Johnson, an 11 year old from Muskogee, Oklahoma, who saved two lives in a single day. ❤️
At school, a classmate began choking on a bottle cap. Davyon sprang into action, didn’t hesitate & performed the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge it. That same afternoon, Davyon spotted a house engulfed in flames with an elderly woman trapped inside. He charged toward the fire & guided her out to safety. No cameras. No script. Just pure courage & a heart full of compassion.
Because one boy’s decision to act, two lives were spared to see another sunrise.
True change doesn’t require fame or wealth. It starts with kindness in motion & love that steps forward.
Repost to make him famous & keep humanity’s flame alive. ❤️

A final piece of advice from Holly Butcher - written the day before she passed away from cancer at just 27:
“It’s a strange thing knowing you’re going to die young.
At 26, I thought I had time…
To fall in love.
Start a family.
Grow old.
But cancer doesn’t care about plans.
Now, I understand how fragile life really is. Every single day is a gift, not a guarantee.
I’m not writing this to scare you. I’m writing to remind you: really live.
Stop stressing over little things. Be kind to your body- move it, nourish it, stop criticizing it. One day you’ll wish you had appreciated it.
Go outside.
Look at the sky.
Feel the sun.
Just be.
Spend less time chasing “stuff” - more time making memories. Don’t skip moments with people you love.
Laugh more.
Write a note.
Tell someone you love them.
Complain less.
Give more.
Helping others brings more joy than anything you can buy.
Be present.
Put your phone down.
Show up - really show up.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need a perfect body, or a perfect life.
Just follow what makes your heart light up. Say no to what drains you. Make changes when you need to.
And please - donate blood. I wouldn’t have had that extra year without it. And that year gave me memories I’ll hold close… forever.
Thank you for reading this.
Live your life well.
And maybe… we’ll meet again someday.”

When our beautiful Ashley was born, it was the most incredible feeling in the world. I loved being her dad & never imagined she would be diagnosed with #BrainCancer at just 11 years old. 💔
Ashley was the most precious, joyful, caring & compassionate daughter imaginable. She brought so much light & love into our lives & made a profound difference in everyone she touched.
I will continue to fight for my Ashley every single day, make an impact in our #ChildhoodCancer community & do everything I can to help as many Children battling cancer as possible.
Your support & follows mean everything to help us reach more people & give these brave Children the voice they so desperately need. ❤️
Thank you. 🙏🏻

Two years ago, I attended a routine mammogram on 7th April 2024. Five days later, on 13th April, I received a letter recalling me to the clinic.
Two years ago today, I walked into that appointment feeling incredibly anxious about what might happen. Within an hour, I had another mammogram, an ultrasound, and a biopsy after something was detected on the scans although thankfully nothing showed in the lymph nodes.
On 1st May, I was diagnosed with stage 2, 14mm ER-positive carcinoma.
On Friday 14th June 2024, I underwent a lumpectomy with a lymph node biopsy, with results expected in July. Less than 24 hours after surgery, I attended a conference in London for Charlotte who sacrificed so much in her short life.
I now have yearly mammograms. This year, it fell on Charlotte’s birthday, 18th February she would have been 29. I remember asking her to look after me as I went in.
I’m so relieved to say the results showed: no evidence of malignancy.
Please, when that letter comes through your door, go to your mammogram appointment. I’m so grateful I did. It may just save your life.
Miles has already lost his sister I owe it to him to be here for as long as possible.
