Despite seeing their music go everywhere from Coke Studio to PSL to Diplo's Mad Decent Block Party to the Lux Style Awards, Lyari Underground has struggled to sustain its career. The lack of a proper industry in Pakistan is a big reason working class musicians suffer.

A continuous exception has been the area of Lyari in Karachi, which has continued to produce popular musicians for decades. The birthplace of the benju and the lewa, Lyari was also home to one of the first genuine hip-hop acts in Pakistan - Lyari Underground.

As someone who has been working in Pakistani music for over a decade, the biggest issue I have seen is the lack of opportunities for working class musicians. In terms of access and most importantly wealth, the music scene in Pakistan is dominated by urban elites.
