In light of today's tournament, I compiled a list of players that have won melee majors/big invitationals without using a top tier (top 7) character: ChuDat (ICs - Pound 2) Axe (Pikachu - Summit 8) aMSa (Yoshi - TBH10, Apex '22, Scuffed WT) That's it. 3 players over 24+ years.

Fun Melee fact of the day: There have only been two Melee majors which used the waterfall format, Smash 'N' Splash 5 (2019) and Out of the Blue 5 (2026). Both of these tournaments were won by Wizzrobe.
