National Onion Day - the onion was immortalized in still life paintings by three artists: Vincent van Gogh Paul Cézanne & Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Onions are one of the oldest cultivated vegetables having originated in Asia and believed to have been cultivated for 5,000 years.

Part of the Timken collection, John Frederick Peto was an American trompe-l'œil (‘fool the eye’) painter who was long forgotten until his paintings were rediscovered along with those of fellow artist William Harnett.

Salvador Dalí - Spanish Surrealist Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, Marquess of Dalí of Púbol, 11 May 1904 – 23 Jan. 1989, was a surrealist artist renowned for his technical skill, precise draftsmanship and the striking and bizarre images in his work.

The National Gallery in London originally opened on this date in 1824 in its temporary home on Pall Mall. Since 1838, the National Gallery has been located in Trafalgar Square. It houses a collection of more than 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900.
