@jamesxwilkinson @ronmanagernottm Yeah, like I said, back then the bodywork was the limiting factor. I had a mate who’s dad did bodywork repairs and welded etc. He kept loads of old motors on the road using the “Trigger’s broom” philosophy 😂

@TonyPOCTesting @ronmanagernottm Dad was an engineer and did stuff like changing a clutch in the garage. What couldn't he fix? Rust, which consigned at least 3 mechanically sound cars to the scrapyard.

@ArcheryTwat Birmingham? Clue is in the name West Midlands I reckon 🙄😂😂😂😂😂

@bagshaw2112 Our local sweet shop would break a pack of No6 and sell you 5 in a paper bag for 10p back in the 70s. Totally targeted school kids. Seemed ok back then 😂

@acnewsitics @RichardBowler1 Actual goal was distraction from Epstein files and a crafty way to make money by manipulating oil prices IMO

@ClassicAdvertz 3M Scotch VHS tapes. I worked for their Healthcare division in the early 90s and these ads were still broadcast then.

@SheilaHarries @ronmanagernottm I have a 10 year old Hyundai i30 and the front lights are remarkably accessible but the rear light cluster is a bit of a Krypton Factor test. I refuse to pay for fitting if I can. Useful tips are available on YouTube but also some poor advice.
English

@TonyPOCTesting @ronmanagernottm Absolutely. Now you can't even get at the lights to replace the bulbs. 😡

@ReformSecYork @ronmanagernottm Yeah there was an attitude then that as long as the bodywork was ok or fixable then a recon engine was always an option. I doubt that happens much now.
Every car owner had some rudimentary skills for car maintenance back in the 60s/70s
English

@TonyPOCTesting @ronmanagernottm Totally agree. Imagine if the same approach was used but with better materials and techniques. That would be a better approach to sustainable transport.
English

@ronmanagernottm And when you went to buy parts you dealt with someone who knew what they were talking about. Not a software program that asks for your number plate then suggests the wrong parts

@jkbjournalist Don’t forget these are the people that helped create the subsequent generations

@archivetvmus71 I wish they were still on, especially on a Saturday night

@JapaneseIcons The only car that ever looked good with timber was the Morris Traveller IMO

Honda Civic Woodie anyone? Meet the Civic Country from 1980, a second generation 1.5 with a 5-speed transmission, initially limited to 1500 units.

@Carsofglasgow1 I drove a Ka of that vintage for a year or so about 15 years ago. It was actually quite a fun drive and amazingly versatile, I managed to carry quite a lot of stuff around. Donated it to a mate’s daughter as a 1st car & she loved it
