If we had real reporters, #Rays media should be asking and calling out the sloppy play and poor defense of a team that prides itself on pitching and defense & hold Cash and FO accountable.
This is poor preparation in ST on fundamentals.

This is fascinating discussion to me. In the moment I do Cruz/Ryan trade 10 times out of 10. The process was sound--results just didn't follow.

I think the #Rays are tough loving him because of his ceiling and pushing him to reach it. They were hard on him for his defense last year and hard on him for not being ready for leadoff.
Their approach is paying off.

Chandler Simpson’s development in year 2 has been so impressive. We saw the great bat-to-ball skills last season, but the improved defense has made such an impact. 2025: -9 DRS -5 OAA -6 FRV 2026: 3 DRS 2 OAA 2 FRV Obviously a really small sample, but it looks like Chandler can be a real + defender in the outfield. #RaysUp #MLB

The Rays lead MLB in errors with 12 (next closest: LAA with 8) and rank second in SB allowed with 12.
This team simply isn’t built to overcome defense this poor. The Rays made a conscious effort to improve the defense from last season and that hasn’t come into fruition. Things will have to change quickly if they want to compete this year.
Important to remember it’s a long season and we still have 155 games left. Even teams that win 85+ games go through rough stretches this like this.

Some fans give Taylor Walls a ton of crap for his hitting, but completely ignore the consistency he brings to the shortstop position.
Saving runs can be just as important as creating runs throughout a 162-game season.
Really unlucky inning for Joe Boyle. Dinked and doinked + costly error.

The weather is immaculate, the lakes are beautiful and peaceful, and Target Field is the most underrated ballpark in baseball.

@jakelarsen They lead the league in errors to start the season. There's no sugar coating that. For a team that is built on pitching and defense, that's a poor start.
