🚨 Excited to share our new paper in @LancetRespirMed 🚨 Our systematic review & network meta-analysis compares preoxygenation strategies for critically ill patients needing intubation. NIPPV tops HFNC & facemask in reducing hypoxaemia. 🔍 Study Highlights • Systematic review & network meta-analysis of 15 RCTs (n=3420) • Compared HFNC, NIPPV, and facemask oxygen for preoxygenation • NIPPV likely best at reducing hypoxaemia during intubation   – vs HFNC: RR 0.73 (moderate certainty)   – vs facemask: RR 0.51 (high certainty) • HFNC better than facemask: RR 0.69 (high certainty) • No strategy improved first-attempt intubation success • NIPPV may reduce serious adverse events vs HFNC/facemask • No clear mortality difference between methods • Data used to inform upcoming international airway guidelines 🧠 Implications: NIPPV may be preferred in high-risk or critically ill patients; findings support evidence-based guideline updates kwnsfk27.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2… @UofT_DoM @MacDeptMed @Bram_Rochwerg @DenaZera @HEI_mcmaster

How many times will the USA drag the rest of the world into war? In my lifetime, there has been the Iraq war, the disaster in Libya, and Syria. Now we are being led to accept the atrocities in Gaza and blindfully accept an illegal war in Iran. The United States is unacceptable and no better than Russia in its wanton aggression. #Iran

Two thoughts this morning: The operation last night is an incredible testament to American pilots and other service members, from General Caine and General Kurilla on down. While the media has attacked the president's senior team relentlessly, and tried to sow fake division, last night would have been impossible without perfect coordination and discretion from the president's national security team. I'm incredibly proud of them, and I know the president is, too.

Tonight, we reached an agreement with the Department of War to deploy our models in their classified network. In all of our interactions, the DoW displayed a deep respect for safety and a desire to partner to achieve the best possible outcome. AI safety and wide distribution of benefits are the core of our mission. Two of our most important safety principles are prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for the use of force, including for autonomous weapon systems. The DoW agrees with these principles, reflects them in law and policy, and we put them into our agreement. We also will build technical safeguards to ensure our models behave as they should, which the DoW also wanted. We will deploy FDEs to help with our models and to ensure their safety, we will deploy on cloud networks only. We are asking the DoW to offer these same terms to all AI companies, which in our opinion we think everyone should be willing to accept. We have expressed our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements. We remain committed to serve all of humanity as best we can. The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place.

Iran’s nuclear programme is a grave threat to international security, and Canada has been consistently clear that Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.     While U.S. military action taken last night was designed to alleviate that threat, the situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile. Stability in the region is a priority.   Canada calls on parties to return immediately to the negotiating table and reach a diplomatic solution to end this crisis. As G7 leaders agreed in Kananaskis, the resolution of the Iranian crisis should lead to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.

Ireland's Minister for Trade and Foreign Affairs deeply regret the blanket tariff on EU - claiming it could have significant effect on Ireland.... ... I have to say.... Quitting the EU is a solution. UK only have 10%. #JustSaying

Canadians sighing with relief for not being on this list should remember we still have border tariffs of 25%, auto tariffs of 25% and steel and aluminum tariffs of 25%. Like dodging a bullet into the path of a tank.
