The under-16s social media ban will inevitably foster a generation of incurious morons. Revolutionary politics and autodidacticism will become a strange quirk of a minority born between the late-90s and mid-10s. It has to be opposed at all costs.

I do not care what sam hyde may or may not believe because his comedy is amusing to me. I hardly started crying when chris morris developed TDS; I like a lot of stephen frys work with hugh laurie. It doesnt matter whether a jester keeps woke or whatever beneath his harlequin hat

My notetaking (for personal reading) is not particularly systematic. It consists at the beginning of faithful word-for-word transcription for pages at a time, as I find my bearings in the text, before recording only pleasant turns of phrase which catch my eye.

Who are the Whitest teams at the World Cup? Japan, Argentina. Scotland have a few tokens but their squad is mostly White.

The MSG tweet on the Salvador Dali-Dick Cavett interview lives rent free in my head. That clip still makes me angry.

Cromwell and Lenin both understood the [Miltonic] theme of the 'irresistible power of weakness': those who are counted weakest can yet overcome the forces of the world.

@Seikilos5 Well the point is he didn't write a poem or a tragedy on English history, which had been his ambition even into his forties. The failure, as he saw it, of the revolution crushed his spirits and much embittered him towards his countrymen. So he chose instead a Biblical subject.

Milton at one time consciously aspired to write an English Aeneid, a national poem that glorifies an elect people, the theme of God's Englishmen as the pattern of a Christian nation.

He wanted to be a Virgil but was forced, by historical contingency, and at great personal suffering, to be a Dante.

But as the Good Old Cause degenerated and was finally defeated, as it seemed, in 1660, so his interest in writing a poem on a British theme, an Arthuriad, lessened and he instead chose to write an epic about Man and his salvation.

Milton's ambition was astounding. He aspired not only to be a great poet, but to write a definitive History of England, his own Summa Theologica ('De Doctrina Christiana'), an English-Latin dictionary, and a definitive treatise on Logic ('Artis Logicae').
