The #Canola Watch email yesterday had a short survey on canola "yield robbers" for 2023. If you have a minute to fill it out, your responses will help CCC agronomy specialists tailor presentations through the winter. surveymonkey.com/r/YieldRobbers… Early results for one question:

Correct swath timing is a major contributor to yield. The optimal time to swath canola is at 60% seed colour change or later. Learn how to assess correct SCC for swathing with @CanolaWatch.

Prior to swathing is the ideal time to assess your #canola crop for plant diseases. Watch this short video with @JurkeCCC on how to complete a canola disease survey and the value it provides. #WestCdnAg #CdnAg

@JoshFankhauser1 @efarmerdot @canolacouncil @AlbertaCanola @CanolaWatch The thing I like about 4R is that you plan to optimize your crop nutrition, and have the flexibility to compensate if your plans change. If due to circumstances you can't control, one "R" has to be compromised, there is usually a way to make up for that with one or more other "R"

@efarmerdot @canolacouncil @AlbertaCanola @CanolaWatch I honestly don't think that there is a way to have all 4 R's always one or 2 that you have to neglect. Spring: or Fall right place is easy but cant determine the right rate, or right time In Crop easy to get right rate and right time hard hard to get right rate.

Continuing to monitor for insect and disease pests in canola, there is still a few days left to apply fungicide!#CanadasReady

The decision to spray for flea beetles is one of the most challenging pest management choices #canola producers make. Use the @CanolaWatch 8-step spray decision guide to help.

Following the 4Rs: Right source, Right rate, Right time and Right place, will lead to improved nutrient use efficiency, which is good for both farm productivity and the environment. #CanolaClips22

It is wet across the canola belt. Started thinking about sclerotinia stem rot? Is it a tough decision to spray or not? We are testing a new sclero prediction app this year. But we need beta testers to make sure the algorithm is right. DM me if you want to be a tester.

Have a minute? Here’s a refresher on seed-placed fertilizer from @CanolaWatch ow.ly/3fga50IXyQr Only a safe rate of phosphorus fertilizer provides any benefit when placed with your seed - typically 25 lbs or less for canola seed.

While it may not be feasible to use a different fertilizer blend for each field, using a common blend for all #canola fields and varying the rate based on productivity levels in the field is another way to achieve the right rate. More info at canolacouncil.org/4R

There are so many reasons to soil test this year. Sampling is recommended if: 1️⃣samples were not taken in the fall 2️⃣crop regrowth or fall weeds have taken up enough nutrients to change test results 3️⃣moisture from snowmelt may have ↗️spring losses ow.ly/AxPb50IKJ6Q
