I've seen a lot of people dislike this episode and even outright hate it, but why is that? Well it comes down to Memory Loss plotlines. Typically writers don't handle those themes well, but Tappei is a very different writer. He has proven he is skilled. youtu.be/yxszzTt2x_Y

So today I learned EVERY YEAR, “American” mahjong players have to BUY NEW RULES to play their fake game. The rules CHANGE EVERY YEAR. And you have to BUY THE RULE SHEET, it not just posted online for free, you have to BUY IT… “AMERICAN” MAHJONG IS A FAKE GAME.
