Atherton Laburnum Rovers produced a dazzling display of attacking football to win the Syndicate Trust Youth Cup Final by beating Southport Hesketh 11-0 at Bamber Bridge FC. Atherton wasted no time getting off the mark when Player-of-the-Match Cristian Mukoko netted after just 5 minutes. William Ashmore doubled their advantage on 32 minutes, George Neill scored on 44 minutes and Mukoko added his second a minute later to reach half time with the score 4-0. Mukoko completed his hat trick on 54 minutes and Joe Collier scored on 60 & 63 minutes. Goals were now flying in from all angles and some of them were pretty spectacular, Confidence Igbinoba netted after 66 minutes then captain Nat Atkinson made it 9-0 on 75 minutes. All that remained was for George Neill to grab his hat trick on 78 & 80 minutes and complete a thoroughly comprehensive victory for Atherton LR. Like Atherton LR, Southport Hesketh are in their debut season in the league, and they will finish in a respectable position in Youth Division White. However, the gulf between the two sides was evident and their manager Dean Rimmer said as much after the game, “I’ve no complaints, congratulations to Atherton LR, they were much the better side, but we’ll be back next season”. The level of sportsmanship on display from both teams was exemplary and the game was well handled by Referee Molly Langford, her Assistants Chelsea Hodgson & Lexi Ball and 4th Official Fiona Shone, the first time one of our finals has been officiated by an all-female team. Graham Gore, on behalf of the sponsors The Syndicate Trust, presented The Youth Trophy to Nat Atkinson the captain of Atherton Laburnham Rovers, the Player-of-the-match Award to Cristian Mukoko of Atherton LR and the souvenir medals to the players from both teams. Finally, the league thanks the officials of Bamber Bridge FC, Tony & Ann Molloy, Bill Harrison & James Knell for their help and support in staging all four of our finals at the SFC Stadium.
