@Anna_Giaritelli @dcexaminer Lol that piece of paper means they entered the country legally. Later on they just didn’t keep up with the paperwork, that’s made them “illegal.” These ICE guys don’t understand their own job

@dmtrubman You're talking about acting as a single payer but sacrificing that benefit by paying Costco as though you were 46k single payers. It's far more advantageous to the city to feed that investment back into itself, rather than sending it to Costco HQ in WA

With the $30 million Mayor Mamdani is planning on spending on building a new public market in East Harlem you could give more than 46 thousand households membership to the nearby Costco for a decade. That's not even counting the waived rent and taxes the mayor has proposed.

@InlandCaGuy Helen Andrews' job is an email job and she surely employs a maid. Her mortgage and other markers of class status are also all federally subsidized. Even the corn she eats is

@zriboua North Korea!? No North Korea is obviously not joining the war. The Houthis and Hezbollah did though. Hezbollah just vowed to keep fighting no matter what happens in the Lebanon-Israel peace talks that start in the US tomorrow

North Korea not joining, Houthis not joining, Hezbollah can’t join, Militias in both Syria and Iraq are either handicapped or got completely destroyed. These things reveal that the IRGC’s strategy which has consisted of using proxies as both a shield and an offensive force is over. North Korea obviously cares far more about remaining independent than helping a dying a regime.

@NikTSharma8 @gonglei89 China will wait on Taiwan and slowly buy up more of its land and its companies. In the Persian Gulf too it will wait. It doesn't want any war. It hasn't been in a war in 40 years because it's good at not getting in wars

@NikTSharma8 @gonglei89 Sailing to Taiwan and seizing US vessels there is ridiculously reckless. You're engaging in paranoid fantasy if you're coming up with reasons why China would add a war on Taiwan to another war it also isn't starting, hasn't started or showed any sign of engaging in

Unfortunately that kind of play would require China’s compliance to the game and what China will most likely do instead is let the block happen, use the rare earth card, and then outbid everyone else for remaining oil barrels in the global market with their giant trade surplus 🤷🏻‍♂️
chinahand@chinahand

if there's 12D chess going on w/ the hormuz blockade, it involves USN seizing China-bound tankers, forcing PRC to deplete its strategic reserves before the next crisis, meanwhile privileging "friends" to lift oil from US at ridiculous prices while the majors make bank.

@RKelanic @BartDePalma Very well-put, though I'll say this: in a failed state it's much easier to just pick the warlord along that Gulf coast and sponsor them. They won't block the waterway because we'll be backing them against the 999 other sides in the Iranian civil war

@BartDePalma Failed states can still attack waterways, like the Houthis in the Red Sea. FWIW Iran has never initiated a conventional war on its neighbors or anyone else. Not because the regime are angels — they aren’t — but because Iran’s leaders are rational and have been deterred.

Blockading Iran will not compel its surrender. After enduring 6 weeks of war, Iran’s leaders won’t suddenly decide, “Oh, we can’t use our ports now. We better meet U.S. demands.” Trump can’t escalate the U.S. out of this mess. The war failed — now it’s time to cut losses. @defpriorities

@RKelanic Iran waged proxy wars against the US through the Taliban, Iraqi Shia militias, Hizbollah, Hamas, Houthis and several small terror groups killing hundreds of Americans. We are decades late in ending these war criminals.

@RKelanic Blockade should be just the start. Reducing Iran to a failed state will deny it the ability to war on its neighbors and build nukes.

@MarcThielke @WarMonitor3 @NewReaganCaucus It can, will, and the whole UN other than us will listen. Because most countries are not so stupid as to believe that China's always trying to start wars without having been in one for many decades. Those islands are far closer to it than us. We're paranoid, entitled
