This is devastatingly well put by Jonathan Freedland in The Guardian. It leaves nowhere to go for the antisemites: “Every minority faces discrimination – note Tory frontbencher Nick Timothy’s appalling attack on Muslim prayer this week – but next to no other diaspora community goes through this. People can’t stand Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, but Russian Orthodox churches don’t require round-the-clock protection. People loathe Donald Trump and his bombing of Iran, but US-branded stores on UK high streets are not smashed and daubed. As for British businesses with investment links to the US, including to US security firms, those remain untouched. Israel and Jews are the exception.”

The key difference, is of course the public hosuing sector. If you have rent controls, but dont have an effective public housing programme then you can see reduced rental housing (in total). We should be aiming to shrink the private rental sector whilst expanding the public.

We had rent controls in Britain until 1915 to 1988 and during this time housebuilding regularly hit over 300k per year. Since they were removed, the house price to income ratio has gone from 4:1 to around 8:1, and housebuilding numbers have collapsed.

Rent controls are a really terrible idea, they never work as intended and just cut supply of properties available. It’s like a lot of ideas on the left these days - it runs on vibes and nothing more.

Labour has been captured by the myth that all disparity is the result of discrimination. They wilfully misrepresent the Equality Act, using it to impose mad bureaucracy on businesses and justify massive market interventions. It is all part of their push for social engineering that sees us not as individuals, but as categories for comparison and competition.

North Sea operator Enquest paid an effective tax rate of 99.7% in 2025 & retained a post-tax profit of a tiny $1.6m. Without the UK windfall tax the profit would have been $125.5m. No surprise that Enquest is giving up on the UK. "At a time when the UK fiscal regime remains challenging, we also took decisive steps to accelerate our diversification into high-growth Asian markets," they said.

What's the underlying reason why so many people so radically prefer bad economic policies like price controls, considering we've known they're bad for decades now?

@Councillorsuzie Yep - four ambulances with them now are on loan. We’re funding permanent replacements, too. That means that the money being donated will deliver over and above what they had before the attack: stronger, not weaker. Hate can’t win.

Wes Streeting has just said that the Ambulances given to the Jewish community are ‘on loan’ - I thought the government had literally given them to the community! - does anyone know the facts here?

Our engineers seized the rare opportunity of the closure of Scotland’s busiest station to deliver an extensive package of maintenance and renewals. The work done would have taken ten months using our usual overnight maintenance window. Read more 👇 networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/major-eng…

Very few people who agree with both of these correct claims: A) The settler movement in the West Bank are modern-day fascists, and the Netanyahu government's implicit endorsement of the recent rein of terror there against Palestinians is not only morally repugnant but potentially catastrophic for the future of Israel and the region. B) The IDF did not systematically target civilians in the Gaza Strip and I still have no idea why that became consensus when it's pretty obvious to me that, even if the IDF were simply *indifferent* to civilian loss of life, they would have easily killed orders of magnitude more people than they actually did kill, and in a much shorter time frame. And it would not even really be that unusual for urban combat.
