Want to do a video or blog about my career as a SWE so far. From the moment I made the decision to finally become a programmer (after dabbling around it for many years) and now that I have finally secured a job. All without college or any bs bootcamp. Not sure which one tho.

@avi_codes I used to care a bit because I’m Mexican and have an accent but I don’t care no more. I don’t mind having my accent or getting asked if I’m Mexican since I learned English when I was 18 lol so it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

@avi_codes I feel you. Was in the same situation a while ago, struggling with myself if I should ask or not bc it would be my ticket into tech. Not even I got the salary I wanted but a big raise on top of that. You should try, wish you best luck! 🍀

@Elixir_Js I have everything written in third person, past tense. Ensure to be consistent with your writing in your bio, experience descriptions, etc. Link projects. Also, if you’re searching for work, customize your profile pic so it has the “Open to Work” badge 👌🏼

@Elixir_Js Ask people you’ve worked with if they are willing to write you thorough recommendations that highlight your top skills! Ask them to highlight specific stories to make it personal. I have some of these on my profile and they help show that I actually am competent in my skills.

Recruiters will often give an offer *expecting* that you’ll negotiate.
As a hiring manager, I once wanted to give a top-of-band offer but the recruiter insisted on slightly less, expecting them to negotiate.
I agreed- but the candidate accepted the offer without negotiating! 🤦🏽♂️

Here's a general framework I use for negotiating
- Thank them
- Prep the convo
- List the skills you'd be contributing to the team
- Align yourself to the team's mission / interests
- CTA
- Thank them & offer to hop on a call to chat or answer any additional questions

@almeezyuh True, I need to keep in mind that the worst they can do is say no! Someone recommended Glassdoor and I saw the base pay range. My offer amount was the lowest value in the range 🤣 so now I understand why you say they leave room to negotiate!
