UPDATE #2: SR 20/North Cascades Hwy remains blocked at Diablo Lake, 4 miles west of the seasonal closure, until further notice. The slope is stable, but the magnitude of 200 ft rocks in the road is significant. Our crews are working on a plan to remove them from the highway.

A skier at a Washington ski area narrowly avoided disaster Friday after falling and becoming trapped upside down in deep snow, but a quick-thinking bystander rushed in to help. Ian Deans, who captured video of the rescue and shared it on Instagram, said the skier appeared to veer off to the side before getting stuck in deep powder Friday morning at The Summit at Snoqualmie ski resort. Deans said he hurried over, dug the skier out, cleared his airway and freed him from the snow. According to Deans, the man was safe and did not indicate he was injured.
