Former Dopamine Junky. Pause before acting. Most urges disappear in 10 minutes. Built a tiny tool for impulse control.

Modern addictions don’t look like drugs. They look like: scrolling trading notifications AI prompts short videos Same dopamine loop.

Most people think addiction begin with bad choices. But in reality, many addictions start with curiosity, stress, or trying something just once. The first few times someone uses a drug, the brain releases huge amounts of dopamine, the same chemical linked to pleasure and reward

Drug addiction doesn’t start the way most people think… Here’s how it slowly takes control of the brain 👇

72 hours without a smartphone doesn’t always increase craving—but the brain tells a different story. Key reward regions light up, showing addiction‑like responses linked to dopamine and serotonin. Smartphone restriction affects the brain even when behavior seems unchanged.

@tehINKCat @_Cornballius_ Yeah, that’s how dopamine tolerance works. The hit fades, so the brain keeps chasing something stronger. Sometimes just pausing the impulse helps break that loop

@_Cornballius_ You can really tell who are the ones deep in their porn addiction. Anyway, there is actually scientific edvence that consuming porn for some time can block dopamine in someone, which causes said person to look for more "risque" porn for the dopamine, some scary shit honestly

The amount of time I spend watching charts vs the amount of money I make from watching charts is a ratio I refuse to calculate. 4 hours of staring at candles for a $20 gain. That's less than minimum wage but the dopamine hits different when the line goes up. Addiction is expensive and time consuming.

AI coding is making teams more impulsive, not faster, while mistaking slot machine dopamine hits for product conviction. The scary part is that the addiction leads to exhaustion, which flattens judgment and erodes the patience required to make anything actually worth shipping. "The thing about AI based coding is that it's like a slot machine in that you have an illusion of control. You know, you can get to craft your prompt and your list of MCPs and your skills and whatever. But in the end, you pull the lever, right? You put in the prompt and something comes back and it's like, cherry, cherry. It's like, oh, next time I'll change my prompt a bit. I'll add a bit more context. Pull the lever again. Pull the lever again. It's the stochastic thing. You get the occasional win that's like, oh, I won. I got a feature. So it's got all these hallmarks of like loss disguised as a win, somewhat stochastic, feeling of control, all the stuff that gaming companies try to engineer into their gaming rooms. Now, none of that means that AI is not useful, but gosh, it's hard to tell." ~ Jeremy Howard
