@mcdittman1 @ELchatFCPS I like this. My 3rd graders are struggling with forming questions. I think this would be a great way to teach and practice this.

@ELchatFCPS I used 20 Questions with my 1st/2nd graders as follow up to nonfiction reading. Showed how much practice needed for formulating simple questions. Students loved the “game.” Were engaged and didn’t want to stop “playing.” Will definitely use strategy again. #ELChatFCPS

@ELchatFCPS I used picture sequencing. My students struggle with chronological order and understanding time lines in non- fiction text. I believe this helped them begin to grasp the concept they were struggling with. Still needs some work for some.

@ELchatFCPS I’m going to use a review picture sequencing as my students seem to be struggling with the concept of chronological order. They’ve heard the term, but are truly not sure what it means and how to incorporate it into their content. I started with the definition and will move

I don’t understand this obsession with Leslie Jones. I turned NBC off last night because of her. All she does is annoyingly scream into the camera and jump up and down. Who considers that funny and why? Am I missing something here?

@Annmporter @ELchatFCPS I agree. More open conversation like questioning is better to build understanding, word usage and confidence in language development. They actually want to talk more.

@ELchatFCPS #ELChatFCPS The IRE approach of student/teacher interaction leads to single word answers while the dialogic approach guides students into meaningful conversation. Ask open-ended questions and help the student make connections using known language while providing new vocabulary.

@ELchatFCPS #ELchatFCPS Increasing wait time and affording more turns to speak - our rapid fire world doesn’t encourage that and we must be aggressively purposeful in modeling that, allowing for that and rewarding that.

@ELchatFCPS I provide small group instruction. I find a lot of open honest conversation time, especially around vocabulary. I feature one content vocabulary word each time we meet. I encourage them to share what they know and open up for questions from other students.

@ELchatFCPS I believe that conversation is very important. I’m glad that this chapter tells how important tsk can be. Less IRE as the chapter calls it makes for better conversational develop in English language learners. In my small groups I try to make conversation ongoing to a point.

@ELchatFCPS I think the one thing that really registered with my thinking was the confirmation that all teachers are teachers of English. Sometimes you feel like you are alone in this endeavor to help these students learn new vocabulary especially in the content areas.
