However, the downside is that when hazards are used while driving normally, other motorists cannot see your turn signals, which can cause confusion and increase the risk of collisions. In heavy rain and poor visibility, the safer practice is to slow down, switch on low-beam headlights, increase following distance, and reserve hazard lights for true emergencies or when stopping is unavoidable.
