Elon Musk just told a story that should terrify every AI company on Earth.
His son Saxon is autistic.
Saxon couldn’t understand why the family went to restaurants.
You can get the same food delivered.
You can call your friends over.
You can eat better at home for half the price.
So why go?
Musk: “He had an epiphany and said, ‘Oh, the reason people go to restaurants is to hang out with strangers.’”
A kid who takes the world literally just decoded something the rest of us never thought to question.
We like being around people we’ll never know.
Look at what we already built.
Delivery apps so you never wait in line.
Remote work so you never share an office.
Self-checkout so you never talk to a cashier.
Every innovation of the last 20 years was a bet against human proximity.
Every one paid off.
Until it didn’t.
Loneliness is now a public health emergency.
Depression has doubled since the smartphone.
The average American has fewer close friends than any generation in history.
We didn’t remove friction.
We removed the thing friction was hiding.
Now look at what’s coming.
AI agents that handle your emails.
AI companions that replace your conversations.
AI assistants that make every human interaction optional.
Same playbook. Same bet.
Except this time we’re not engineering out strangers.
We’re engineering out humans entirely.
The coffee shop where nobody knows your name.
The subway where no one speaks.
The restaurant where you’ll never see that couple again.
Those aren’t failed connections.
They’re the background radiation of belonging.
We don’t just need people who know us.
We need to exist in rooms full of people who don’t.
That’s what a kid understood at a dinner table that billion-dollar companies still can’t grasp in a boardroom.
We spent 20 years building a world you never have to show up to.
AI is about to finish the job.
And nothing it builds will ever replicate sitting in a room full of strangers and not feeling alone.

Every time someone asks me what's going on with AI, I give them the safe answer. Because the real one sounds insane.
I'm done holding back.
I wrote what I wish I could sit down and tell everyone I care about.
Send it to someone who needs to read it.

If it's running XP (2001) or Vista (2007) and Chrome stopped updating around 2016, I'd guess 15-20 years old—ancient in tech terms!
For Google Earth (web/app) and SketchUp (needs decent graphics), aim for a laptop with 8GB+ RAM, Intel Core i5/Ryzen 5, and integrated graphics. Acer Aspire 5 (~$400-500) or Lenovo IdeaPad (~$450) should handle it well. Budget still key?
English

@grok … my dad is using an Acer windows xp/vista laptop that is so old chrome will no longer update - I suspect it hasn’t for years. I think it is time for something new.
English

@chasePetsche Sounds like a solid plan—XP/Vista are security nightmares now. For basics like browsing/email, a budget Windows 11 laptop (e.g., Acer Aspire 3, ~$300) or Chromebook (~$200) would work great. What's his main use and budget?

@steven_sipple 7 win season vs typical 4 - it’s progress. The problem are pundits who think we will be or should be in the national playoff talks every year.
English

Column: Rhule can sell a comb to a bald man — but even he can’t spin “progress” if Nebraska falls to Iowa. Beat Iowa, and NU shows tangible momentum. Lose, and it’s back to questions about whether this program is really moving forward. Huge Friday ahead.

4Runner build day tomorrow. Adding a @EcoFlowTech alternator charger. Will need to figure out how to run wiring from the engine bay to the rear cargo area. Fun will be had by me.

@MrStand_Fast @BillAckman Voice of reason. Thank you. My coworker was a Blackhawk pilot as well and said these same things to me yesterday.
English

Former Blackhawk pilot here. I’ll try to describe it for you.
Imagine you are looking at the world through toilet paper tubes, and everything is just different shades of green and black, with stars and ground lights hard to differentiate and aircraft lights that look the same as those.
Then you have 3 different radio frequencies going off in your ears.
Then you’re trying to navigate without any peripheral vision.
And you’re trying to keep the aircraft under control.
And you are trying to keep watch for all traffic, not just one plane. Because there are several in the sky at once and you’re tying to mentally keep track of all of them.
And you get distracted for like 5 seconds or your focus goes elsewhere, like you instructor pilot asking you a question about airspace regulations.
Boom. You’re all dead. Flying these machines is really tough, and the airspace and NVGs make it a heck of a lot tougher.
English

Someone who has piloted a Blackhawk please explain how this is possible.

@krassenstein @DrewsOn_X @lexfridman Guaranteed no one was offended. Just outraged their team didn’t win.
English

@DrewsOn_X @lexfridman If I did something that clearly looked like something incredibly offensive to a bunch of people out of excitement, while not thinking, I would certainly apologize to those I offended.
English

@lexfridman I agree with you 100%. I do think that he could perhaps apologize for accidentally making people think that he was doing something that he wasn’t. It will go a long way I think if he admitted he screwed up in a moment of excitement.
English

What’s funny is that even without the sound on, I know exactly where this is in the song.
