As Black History Month nears an end, I’m excited to share a story I’ve been working on for months. I talked with several players from the 2015 #Mizzou football team to reflect on a boycott that now happened over 10 years ago. Even all this time later, it remains relevant and shines as a defining example of the power that athletes can have. Northern Illinois defensive lineman Mark Hensley is signing with Missouri, he told ESPN. He’s an interior defensive lineman with 5.0 TFLs and 1 sack last year. He finished the year with 32 tackles. He’s a native of Labadie, Missouri, which makes this a homecoming for Hensley.

Quick story time: My parents met at the University of Miami. I was raised a Hurricane. Watched almost every football and basketball game from elementary to high school. One of the first UM football moments I learned about was the 2002 national title game. Because of that, I had a touch of disdain for Ohio State growing up. I haven’t cared as much as I’ve gotten older, mostly because I wasn’t even alive in 2002. But I think the kid who was Stephen Morris for Halloween in 2013 (helmet picture below) would be thrilled to learn that the ‘Canes eventually got the Buckeyes back, although he’d be very confused as to why 12 teams can play for the national title and that Indiana is the No. 1 team in the country.
