@ndrewhung what a huge year…. Lots of amazing stuff from the usual suspects… Spiritualized, Beth, Daniel Avery, HAAi, Unloved, Suede, WMC, etc. But that PJ Harvey b-sides set has been particularly rewarding to sift through
@Ryan_Ken_Acts That’s interesting, I hadn’t considered the “ghosting is reversible” angle- I’d always assumed it was just a way to avoid direct, potentially uncomfortable communication. And sometimes just laziness.
IMO Ghosting is communication but its appeal is lack of clarity. The ghoster can avoid unpleasant convos or even change their mind. You can refuse to accept that for any reason but direct communication obscured on purpose ≠ clarity. Refusing is about YOUR clarity as the ghosted.
Most promotions happen because you've proven you can be trusted to do (at least part of) the new job.
The caveat is this only works with organizations who value your contributions. Definitely don't toil away for years without being recognized and compensated for your work.
Every time I've taken a job because I let someone convince me that some horrible thing has gotten much better, I've regretted it, even though things had really improved a lot.
The problem is, they generally had no external frame of reference, so much better was still quite bad.
You and I can’t do everything on our own.
Sheer willpower isn’t enough to push something through by yourself. Trust me, I’ve tried.
90% of the time, you need other people’s support and cooperation.
At a minimum, you don’t want them to be a blocker.
You need their buy-in.
I find it fascinating how many people seem offended at the idea that someone might try to do things quickly and efficiently.
In tech circles, this is often framed as a reaction to hustle culture, overwork, etc., but if you look elsewhere, you can see this is a universal reaction
For every tactic, there are a hundred ways to execute poorly.
Lazy thinkers try a tactic once with mediocre execution & say "x doesn't work!"
Don't blame the tactic. Consider whether the tactic was a fit for your situation in the first place & how to improve your execution.
Big news, everybody- and sadly, it’s not good… just heard back from the recruiter and they’ve decided not to move forward with my candidacy. Absolutely gutted, really thought I was gonna get this one- this has been the longest 227 days of my life.
