After discovering Yuzuru Hanyu, I’ve found joy again in so many things I once loved. It felt like being renewed after an endless winter stepping at last into a gentler season, with a newfound hope for what lies ahead. In many ways, the message of hope he conveyed in Haru yo, Koi feels as though it came true for me. I’ll admit that I don’t know much about the technicalities of figure skating and may be I’ll learn in time. But I love art, dance and music and it is perhaps due to this shared language of expression that I feel most connected with him. Yappe is green-yellow (Yuzu’s favorite colors) and was created after 3.11 disaster, with its name coming from a Miyagi dialect word meaning “Let’s do it!” (reflecting the desire to stand up together and take action). Tbh, it’s hard to compete with a mascot that meaningful 💛💚
