With regard to following moral law, it’s possible some adhere to THAT portion better, but at the extreme ends, the best Christians are obviously Christians, not atheists

@doofgeek4011 Gen 3:22 “Man has become like one of us, knowing good/evil.” So they gain a new “knowledge of good/evil” after eating fruit, but it is claimed they were morally responsible before they had this knowledge. You have to appeal to some limited awareness before eating to make sense.

Kelvin's analogy misses what Genesis is actually doing. Adam and Eve aren't portrayed as ignorant children in the text but as morally responsible humans who understand God’s command.

The story of the fall in the garden of eden is an incredibly stupid story. It’s like a father who puts their child in a room with a venomous snake, then tells the child not to touch or go near the snake, knowing fully well that the child has absolutely no understanding of the consequences of touching the snake and then seriously punishing the child and all the child’s descendants that have absolutely nothing to do with the initial event, for being bitten by the snake. And then calling the father all loving and good. No story ever written is more stupid.

@KeeperOfGamingY @darwintojesus Fair; it’s hard to generalize confidently without a specific and narrow context. My response was to the second comment barring the use of better as a concept within an atheist framework. Good/bad/better/worse are still usable without contradiction by atheists.

But, yeah, some Christians don't read it completely
But most atheists that I have talked to just know Buzz verses rather than any substantial verse knowledge

@darwintojesus Saying ‘there are no children in this room’ while knowing humans exist is nothing like atheism. ‘Children’ are just a definable subset of humans. God isn’t a subset of something we already know exists—you still have to demonstrate that kind of being exists at all.
