16 years ago today, @earlxsweat's debut mixtape 'EARL' was released on Tyler, The Creator's Tumblr for free. It is a brash, absurd, yet incredibly clever first effort from the then 16-year-old, who was shortly sent to boarding school in Samoa by his family following its release. The draw was magnetic. Core Odd Future fans and new ones alike found in it the same charm that made the collective's rise so rapid. Since then, Earl has blossomed from a viscerally articulate teenager to a generational storyteller. Earl Sweatshirt, @t6mikee, and @1surfgang's new album 'POMPEII // UTILITY' drops this Friday.
