I spoke with the chancellor of @SUS_Florida about the vote today to cut sociology entirely from gen ed. He told me: “I want to make sure I get this quote right, and I want to make sure you get it right. We didn’t murder sociology. Sociology committed suicide.”

It hasn’t been an easy week since George Clooney first came in with horrific skin issues. Obviously it has been tough on him but the medical team have also been struggling to keep him calm and explain we are trying to help him. So many staff are always sitting with him giving him time, treats and patience. And the results are just incredible. He has a long way to go and there is still fear and pain in every ounce of his body but you can see the life coming back into his eyes. He’s a young dog and the medicines are really starting to work so he has a very bright future ahead of him. A big weekend of sleep, good food, special creams and his meds and he’ll be looking even better. His little body is exhausted from so much fighting I stay alive on the streets but I think he is starting to understand he is safe now with us. ❤️

The Moroccan migrant gang that sexually assaulted her is described as “some men in a night club” in this article. And they try to frame the father as bad for…not wanting his daughter to die. There are not limits to what the press will do to protect their narratives.

This is the defining feature of the alt-war. It is not that people lack information, but that the success of the war conflicts with their priors and so they have constructed an alternative war: one in which Tel Aviv is burning, Washington never heard of the Strait of Hormuz before last week and the whole enterprise is doomed. Because that is the only version they can psychologically accept.
David Gerstman@soccerdhg

Excellent op-ed in @washingtonpost by @jmurtazashvili "We are living through the first alt-war: a conflict in which the war fought online and the war fought in reality have diverged so completely that they might as well be happening on different planets." washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/…

How Vulnerable Is America to an ‘Operation Spiderweb’ at Home? Very @NoahCRothman "The wars that have raged in Europe and the Middle East over the course of this decade have featured operations in which technically sophisticated powers managed to disable lightly defended targets deep inside hostile nations by using capabilities they smuggled into enemy territory." nationalreview.com/2026/03/how-vu…

The current state of the Royal Navy: 2 aircraft carriers — neither operational. 6 Type 45 destroyers (our most powerful warships) — one operational (in Cyprus). 7 Type 23 frigates (less powerful, much older) — three operational 5 Astute class nuke-powered subs — one operational (in Arabian Sea?). Surely those responsible for this appalling state of unreadiness (a national embarrassment if ever there was one)— political, civilian and military — should be fired/charged. Their incompetence has effectively left us without a navy. Quite an achievement for an ancient island nation.

This is what happens when survivors are finally listened to — and properly supported. A participant we have been working with on the @rapeganginquiry, who has endured years of abuse at the hands of organised rape gangs across the country, has now been approved for a managed move — a crucial step towards safety for her and her family. This comes after a serious failure, where Social Services admitted to a data breach that resulted in her personal details being shared with one of her perpetrators — placing her and her loved ones at real and immediate risk. No survivor should ever have to experience that. And yet, this is the reality too many are facing — not only surviving unimaginable abuse, but then being failed by the very systems meant to protect them. Through advocacy, persistence, and standing firmly alongside her, we have been able to support her in securing this move. It’s not the end of the journey — but it is a vital step towards safety, stability, and the chance to begin rebuilding her life. She messaged me to say: “thankyou for your supporting housing letter..... They have approved our managed move… we just need to wait for a suitable property now.” This is what fighting for survivors looks like. But it should not take this much. We will continue to challenge these failures, hold services to account, and stand with every survivor who deserves to feel safe. @RupertLowe10 @officialsammyuk

A woman describes encountering a man in her locker room. Staff tell her they can’t help. Equity Panel: “When they said they couldn't do anything for you, it's true. It is the law. Gender identity and gender expression is protected. That's the law.”
ROAR Women NYC 💛🤍💜@RoarWomenNYC

"We have to acknowledge that women deserve privacy and dignity in their sex-segregated spaces." This NYC panel thinks "Gender Equity Initiatives" means enabling men who undress in women's spas. What a joke. Good thing there are still sane women to call out the injustice.

when I was a kid, adults worked really hard to make sure I could identify reliable sources of information. they made a big deal about not citing wikipedia etc. but they didn't drive home that a lot of the people talking about politics are just mentally ill and you shouldn't listen to anything they say. the older I've gotten, the more I've seen people I know get depressed and then start talking like this. they blame their mental state on the state of the world, but the causation clearly goes the other way.

Things I don't do with it: go into a chat with an AI without my thesis already strongly developed, have it outline or write, accept anything the AI says. ("Please provide linked sources" should be in every prompt).

I use AI to do research (i.e., find things to read, explain parts of academic papers I find ambiguous or confusing), transcribe interviews, generate pushback on my column thesis, suggest trims when I'm over my word count, sharpen podcast interview questions, and perform a final fact check on columns and editorials. But mostly it's compressing the ancillary tasks to the main job: reading, thinking, and writing.
Matthew Cole@mattbencole

This is literally what my students say when they get busted using AI. “I didn’t use it to write my paper just for brainstorming, outlining, and editing.” Yeah that’s most of what writing is.

“Only ONE trans woman weightlifter competed in Tokyo 2021” and stole a place from a woman who could have and should have been there. Let’s get to the real reason they are up in arms. Let’s say zero men pretending to be women ever even qualified. The assertion - the correct one - that women’s Olympic sport is not open to “trans women” is an admission (again a correct one) that “trans women” (ie men pretending to be women” - are not women. That’s why they object. It’s far less to do with impact (why do you care? You’re not affected by it? Etc) - and everything to do with their house of cards falling down. If “trans women” are not women when it comes to sport, and that’s because of real and important differences between the sexes… then they aren’t women in any scenario. Which is true. They are men. I might also say to Nikki “but what about “trans men”” Yeah there’s a reason you’re not mentioning women pretending to be women isn’t there? You know men pretending to be women have an unfair physical advantage in sport *because they are men*. You know, I know, I know you know - and I know why all the trans activists are up in arms about it. They can’t admit that even sometimes “trans women” (ie men) are not women or their entire ideology and basis for arguing ANY special privileges falls over in a heap of its own nonsense and contradictions.
Pop Base@PopBase

Nikki Hiltz, a transgender & non-binary Olympian, speaks out against the event’s new anti-trans policy: “I don't know who needs to hear this but ZERO trans women competed in the Paris Olympics. Only ONE trans woman weightlifter competed in Tokyo 2021 and she did not win a medal. Can we please stop obsessing over trans people? And idk maybe focus our time, energy, and resources into real problems women's sports face?”

Drone swarms shut down one of the largest and most national security sensitive @usairforce bases in the United States during a major war. And we’re told the Air Force was powerless to stop it. These drones were “superior” to anything in Ukraine. Why is this not a major story?: “The electronic countermeasures failed to work.”

The platypus is one of the most unusual animals: it is a mammal that lays eggs, with a duck-like bill, beaver-like tail, otter-like feet, and is venomous. It uses electroreceptors to find prey, has eyes with double cones, lacks a functional stomach, and has 26 pairs of chromosomes. It is also fluorescent and glows under UV light.
