@wbmosler While the UK edition is leading on a story about the impending collapse of Thames Water: “That crisis [the Truss mini-budget of 2022] added billions of pounds to the UK’s cost of borrowing, as investors demanded a higher price to lend to it” theguardian.com/business/2024/…

@founderscoders 5/5 It already feels like a big step forward from where we were a few weeks ago and an improvement, more importantly, on the world as it was before March 2020.

@founderscoders 4/5 We are setting aside time for scheduled planning and review meetings, a long lunch together, ad hoc discussions as needed, and at the end of the day an early departure from our desks for a round (or two) at the local pub.

1/5 At @founderscoders we have now adopted a way of working that is neither fully remote nor a return to the past. It is too early to know if we are going to stick with it, but I want to share what we are now doing in case others find it useful.

"we've gone from a utopian vision of new currency to a get rich quick scheme propped up by shrewd highwaymen... the control matrix established in Web 2.0 persists in Web 3 - it just has a different name and lives behind an additional layer of abstraction" joshcsimmons.com/posts/absurdit…

5/6 It is also better for our employment partners, who have access to significantly better-prepared candidates. And there are no training or hiring fees. HM Government even provides an incentive payment for each new apprentice hired.

1/6 Until recently, Founders and Coders operated primarily as a coding bootcamp, training people for several weeks before helping them to find jobs. We have recently switched to being an apprenticeship training provider.

5/6 Some of those companies may be wondering why they are now struggling to hold onto their more experienced staff, although HR and engineering managers may understand it better than the finance departments with whom they perhaps lost the argument last year.

1/6 Several years ago I was talking to a senior engineering manager at a large UK-based software agency who had a view on hiring junior developers that at the time I hadn’t heard before, although I have heard it several times since.
