i love my job and it is SO rewarding, but because of some bureaucratic issues i can’t do any vestib, and the only way it’s even been considered is if i’d be willing to do a saturday clinic (on top of my full time hours) at a different hospital (1h commute). 🥲😢

And!!! please be aware, self-diagnosis should be taken seriously but approached with care. Formal diagnosis is often inaccessible in various ways, and also takes a lot of energy/effort for sometimes little to no benefit.

It’s evidence based and ALSO personal experience, it’s the perfect condensed educational tool. Despite the title they also talk a bit about autism/auDHD, dyslexia, and misophonia (and what sounds like hyperacusis) as well.

Audiologists! Two of our favourite things to do are listening and having all the answers to help people communicate aren’t they? IMO this podcast episode should be required listening for everyone.

Also if you’ve had difficulty in any facet of life for that long but ESPECIALLY academia, it’s v likely to have a mental health impact. Again, self-advocacy, students are more aware of how they can get help than ever.

Adding to point 2, there are a LOT of kids who work ‘differently’ or struggle and it goes unnoticed by caregivers/teachers for various reasons. When they realise they can get support to level the playing field (and play to their strengths), they have the power to self-advocate!

Genuinely inane thought. 1) different demands show different profiles of disability 2) missed and delayed diagnosis 3) time literally contributes to chances of having a disability 4) some disabilities *require* time as an element of diagnosis 4) put on your critical thinking hat

the geniuses at the LAPD noticed a medical diagnostic clinic had high energy usage so they raided it for no reason and a cop had his gun looney tunes style stolen from him by powerful magnets.

My god. I despair.
The dehumanisation of neurodivergent folk runs so deep in academia. So much so that the realisation that autistic people have feelings is a ‘revelation’.
