@jeremiahmoore It’s run by @seb@sfba.local and @cd24@sfba.local. They seem super nice and chill. Last week the server went down like 4 times tho, which is another reason I decided to try and build my own. I’m not sure the software can really handle loads with 25k users.

@fadersolo Super clear thx Scott. Might make sense to be geographically centered, OR community centered. I could imagine server performance being important too if there’s a huge number of users. Wonder who foots the bill for sfba.social? I see they have a tip jar…

@jeremiahmoore One final note: if you’re following less than 50 people, don’t hesitate to follow any account that looks even mildly interesting. It’ll all start to make a lot more sense once you’re following 50+ people and then you can begin to cull your list.

Ok, I’m live at pinksection.xyz — this could be messy while I figure it out. I’m not extremely hardcore.

I’m probably gonna kill my account pretty soon. I’m enjoying @joinmastodon and don’t wanna support whatever seems to be going on over here now.

@jeremiahmoore There’s already folks out there offering fully managed mastodon hosting. I’m gonna start there for now and then see if I can’t manage to spin my own up when I have spare time.

@fadersolo Hosting where if I might ask?… was imagining hours learning how to config AWS storage or SMTP APIs… but maybe there’s an easier way.
