@girba I thought syntax was structure, semantics meaning. Ironically we're now arguing semantics about the phrase "arguing semantics" - very meta :D

@fhd Semantics stands in contrast to syntax. Content in contrast to form. So when people use “arguing semantics” they actually mean “arguing syntax”. Which is funny given that the whole point is about how we should distinguish content from form :)

I hear people use "semantics" as a way to dismiss one's argument. It's almost as if semantics are not the most important part.

So far, I'm quite enjoying Mastodon - feels like Twitter in the old days, probably mostly because there's fewer people and only organic content.

Dabbling in game development again after a ~8 year hiatus. Decided to go for a third party engine for the first time. Tried the common ones: Terrified by UE, disgusted by Unity, delighted by Godot.

I find @valvesoftware's hardware products surprisingly good, not just the Index. Got myself the (discontinued) Steam Controller and I love it for games designed for keyboard/mouse. Maybe I'm just the right kind of weird for this stuff :D

@hadizaschmitz I did say "in my experience" a lot in that tweet, but I think I had more mild experiences - my kids just have weird names. But as soon as they started talking the inappropriate questions stopped.

@hadizaschmitz I'd try "Hm, well, it's kind of a beige pink really" to throw them off. Throwing people off is in my experience the best way to deal with this kind of BS. But in my experience these kind of questions stop after 2-3 years.

Also got asked if my daughter’s father is white. “Ah! That explains her skin tone”. So awkward.

Which is fine, do your thing. I'm just annoyed by the hippocricy in the tech industry right now. Say how you do things and be proud of it or change.

Is everything in Swift UI a hack? I probably spent something like two hours finding a workaround for setting the line height of a paragraph of text. Love the concept, but execution seems horrible

@fhd this is what I was saying, there is no alternative to appstore. Imagine the level of anger ppl would have if a company bought a gas station chain and it converted it to only work for Mercedes and no other car.

Wow, iOS development didn't change for the better in the last two years it seems. Today Apple randomly rejected an app I uploaded last week for internal testing. Is this for real?
