Today we released our new NBER working paper: "Easy A's, Less Pay: The Long-Term Effects of Grade Inflation." Joint work with Rachel Nesbit, Nolan Pope, and Merrill Warnick. Grades in U.S. high schools have risen steadily over the past several decades, but the effect is unknown

@KhoaVuUmn I was just getting used to the idea of “free disposal” but this is an improvement. Markets for everything!

I asked my senior Marketing students to estimate how their time would be spent before and after AI. The result: entry-level work collapsed to a thin slice. Big-picture thinking expanded dramatically. That conversation became a book. After the Grind identifies ten archetypes of human value that AI cannot automate and maps them across four dimensions: Interpretive, Integrative, Interpersonal, and Imaginative. The new edition adds four chapters I wrote with my own AI agent, exploring what happens when you're the only human in the room, when loneliness becomes a workplace crisis, and when one person with AI tools can do the work of an entire team. It's for students, early-career professionals, and anyone wondering what their career looks like when the grind disappears. If this resonates with you, I'd appreciate a repost. I'm a professor, not an influencer. I don't have a marketing team or a publishing house behind this. Just a book, an AI agent running on a Raspberry Pi, and the belief that this conversation matters. Help me get it in front of the people who need it. amazon.com/dp/B0GHT7DN7F Paperback amazon.com/dp/B0GJFFLCJ1 E-Book

"AI told me that this AI-written paper is full of error" as proof that AI is not ready for quality research does not sound reassuring as one would think.

@paulnovosad Because path dependence undermines whatever (modest) efficiency there may be in labor markets.

Students are mostly wrong about this. They are so risk averse, it feels like their professional life will be over if they don't stay on the most elite path (which weirdly is banking or consulting??). But at every career stage, the good people move up and the bad ones go down.
alz@alz_zyd_

Honestly, the huge focus on getting into a good college, PhD program, Goldman Sachs, etc. seems to reflect a deep disbelief in the eventual efficiency of labor markets. Nobody seems to believe any more that if you just develop skills, the skills will pay off eventually

This is Teddy. Despite his name, he is not actually a teddy bear that has come to life. Just happens to be an exceptionally soft and cute and cuddly little guy. 13/10

Sounds good. What could possibly go wrong?

Everyone is obsessed with 🦞 @openclaw and @moltbook and the idea of autonomous agents running your life or building societies. But what happens when you scale that up? What if, instead of agents checking your calendar and posting on Reddit, you had hundreds of agents collaborating to construct the building blocks of life 🧬 from "first principles"? We created a Swarm of AIs to design never-before-seen-proteins, far outside of what Nature has produced. They negotiate, debate, and optimize locally to design proteins from scratch, with decentralized logic. No training required, pure emergence! These proteins 👇 were designed by a swarm of AIs!

With a week to reflect, I’m convinced this was the greatest moment in sports history. A 2-star recruit leads the worst program ever to a national championship, beats his hometown team that wouldn’t let him walk on, and finishes it by running over the same guy who knocked him out the year before, with his mother battling MS watching from the stands. If it was a Disney movie, you’d say it was too much.
