Today is the good old 24th of April again. As some of you may recall, Sachin Tendulkar and I share the same birthday. It seems to happen every single year. Between us, we’ve won the World Cup, scored 34,357 international runs and taken 201 international wickets. We’ve even managed to take more 5 wicket hauls in ODIs than Warnie. So happy birthday to us @sachin_rt — and thank you for your contribution to our wonderful and very longstanding partnership 😉 And, as an aside, thank you also to so many of you who have kept me company here and in the real world over the last year. It’s been a lot of fun. Your friendship is very much valued. Hopefully, I’ve kept you entertained. Thank you in particular to my extended family at @SWCCcrocus and @surreycricket and also to my newfound friends at @rajasthanroyals — cricket and our community make such a positive difference to my life. It’s a joy. So thank you all.

Today we celebrate Saint George — the Greek-speaking Roman soldier who was most likely born in Turkey and who allegedly made dragons extinct. Bit brutal. Anyway, on a lighter note, he was also once the patron saint of England’s natty touring blazers, so we gave him a special day each 23rd of April. Have a very happy Saint George’s Day 🌹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Well, I had a good day — one of those days that reminds you what life is really all about, when you hear the birdsong, catch up with lots of old friends and get to watch cricket in the sunshine. It doesn’t get much better than that. I hope you had a good one too.

Wish I’d been alive to see World Series Cricket. Seeing a Super Test with all those amazing players of the era — especially the West Indians — would’ve been incredibly cool. Which is why I’m still a bit surprised that nobody has tried to stage a franchise exhibition Super Test yet. There would surely be a tv market for a Test between, say, RCB and RR? I know this will seem like blasphemy to many people who (understandably) believe that Test Match status should just be about nation v nation. I get that. Just trying to think a little bit outside the box about the commercial levers that could maybe be pulled to rebuild interest in long form red ball cricket.
