Just a bunch of people appended by “(Guy)” or “(Latest Guy)” or “Burner.” No one will know the lengths we used to go to buy 20 dollars worth of dirt.

Just looked through my phone contacts and I swear to God there are minimum 25 numbers of odd strangers who once sold me 1-3 grams of weed in Chicago from the past 10-15 years.

@scottrenshaw @MarkHarrisNYC Also it’s not as if the case depends upon whether or not that particular document was classified. They have many other classified docs that Trump withheld following a subpoena; all they need to establish is his general consciousness, which the recording clearly does.

@MarkHarrisNYC It’s the return of the “it was locker-room talk” defense from the Access Hollywood tape: “I’m telling you it was a lie, but lies are okay if the purpose is to make the teller seem awesome to the person they’re talking to.”

@scottrenshaw I’m happy with the platform in most respects but they have endless payment-processing issues (which I know because I get to see people try to subscribe like six times in quick succession).

@gemko We will need to compare notes once you have seen it (and if I can ever fucking get Patreon to validate my new credit card).

I never do this, but: I’m begging for someone to invite me on a podcast to talk about PAST LIVES, because it’s driving me up a wall how much people are not understanding this movie.

@scottrenshaw Haven’t yet seen PAST LIVES but your plea reminds me of 25 years ago when I kept pointing out that Benigni opens LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL with a flash-forward to Guido finding the pile of corpses. He did that for a reason!

Not trying to be coy about my interpretation—it’s right there in the review I wrote—but while I’m not suggesting they don’t exist, I have not seen *one* other review that acknowledges the opening scene, or its significance. Please point me to them if you are aware.

Kingsley just completely ignoring Maron’s interjection is one of the funniest things I’ve heard on this podcast. (I’ve mostly moved to Bluesky—same handle as here—but I guess they don’t allow posting video yet.)

@vjmfilms (The highest-ranked film in English that i haven’t seen is Warhol’s CHELSEA GIRLS, #420. Highest-ranked period is Dovzhenko’s EARTH, #175.)

Before today, this’d probably be the answer to “Canonized Film You’re Most Embarrassed Never To Have Seen (Hollywood Studio Era subdivision)” Yours?

@vjmfilms Don’t think I have one of these anymore. Let’s see how far down the current They Shoot Pictures list I get before hitting an unseen Hollywood film. […] #634, THE LADIES MAN (1961, Lewis) Not sure whether you’d count that as “studio era.” If not, I’d have to keep going.

@gemko Hey Mike. Hope you're well. Have you written anywhere about Haneke's Cache? I watched it for the first time last night and it really got to me. Can see you rated it pretty highly back in '05 but no review that I could find. Would love to read anything you've got out there.

The William Shatner WTF interview is a HOF ep. Couldn’t stop laughing for at least half of it. Just a 92-yr-old Bill and Maron slyly breaking balls for an hour. Highlight is when Shatner mentions his wife and Maron jumps in with, “First marriage?” Bill sighs and goes, “Fuck you.”

@bentclouds @VinegarSyndrome I’ve been waiting on WILD REEDS for months (mostly because I originally bought it through Amazon; finally cancelled that order and re-purchased directly, but now I’m stuck in the Partners Only backlog).

Scientists want to add to the body of empirical knowledge by conducting research, analyzing data, running experiments, and convincing their peers. Politicians and activists want to persuade the general population by leveraging rhetoric and media. These aren't transferable skills.

@scott_tobias @intothecrevasse If you’re under the impression that old-fashioned donuts are unique to Chicago, rest assured that they are not. My donut of choice in CA since the ’70s. (Can’t recall ever having fresh donuts in NYC, oddly enough.)

@BilgeEbiri Ashamed to say it took me until “I made him rewrite the rest of the film, originally my character was killed here” to realize that Kilmer is just merrily fucking around.
