@GerritD @KyleStock Not embarrassing at all. You don’t face plant if you don’t send it. Honestly, the mountain got the worst of it.

The Amazon beat at Jeff Bezos' paper may not have been the easiest gig (parenthetical disclaimers eating up word count, among other things), but @greene did it with such rigor, clarity, and fairness. Thank you, Jay, and enjoy your well-deserved break from the tech news cycle!

Some personal news: I’ve decided to leave The Washington Post. It feels like time for a break, so I’m going to take one. My last day is Friday. My colleagues are amazing, and I am grateful to have worked alongside the talented, kind folks who cover tech. It’s been a privilege.

@koritsuzuki Thank you, Kori. One of the highlights of my WaPo tenure was working with you, and seeing your piece come to life. So looking forward to seeing what you do next.

@faizsays I'll add to that: Jay discovered that I was big listener of Seattle's KEXP. A few weeks later, matching KEXP t-shirts for my daughter and me arrived in the mail.

Everyone talking about how great of a journalist Jay is and all that, sure. But Jay once learned I had a passing interest in cassette tapes and mailed me a box of 100 tapes (Miles Davis to Springsteen to Public Enemy) to do whatever I wanted with. Hard to think of a cooler guy

@mattmday Concur. Never once have I thought that @greene was anything other than fair in how he approached the company. I’d have said something otherwise. He’s a class act and I’m excited to see what’s next for him.

Anytime somebody suggested to me the last few years that Jeff Bezos must, just must, be directing coverage of his company at the paper he owns, I got a kick out of shutting it down. "Well, I'm not there. But no, he doesn't. Jay Greene covers Amazon for them."

@faizsays Thank you, my friend. That means a lot coming from a guy who is hipster enough to still play cassette tapes. Also means a lot because of who you are. It really has been a privilege working with you.

@mariasacchetti You are too kind, my friend. I'd say the same about you, except you are even more brave, flying across the country to cover the first outbreak. Amazing working with you. It's been an honor.

Heartbroken not to work with one of the best, the kind, talented & brave @greene who covered the first covid outbreak in the US. Fantastic reporter, even better person. Take a bow, will miss reading your great stories. 👏👏👏👏
